Commutative Justice

Justice between two or more parties based on an agreement between the individuals. A, the
employer of B, informed him of his termination on the ground of gross inefficiency. B allegedly
failed to meet his monthly sales quota; therefore, justifying his termination from employment. He
was accorded with proper due process. The case gives justice to the employer, he was giving
his employee the monthly wage of a regular; however, the employee is underperforming.
Compelling the employer to continue B’s employment would be oppressive. According to
jurisprudence, the employer's obligation to give him workers just compensation and treatment
carries with it the corollary right to expect from the workers adequate work, diligence and good
conduct.

Distributive Justice

Justice of sharing that sees to the fair and equal distribution of the goods of creation so that
human needs are met. 3 factors considered when distributing necessary goods; (1) What
goods? (2) Who receives them? (3) Why are they the recipient? These factors are essential,
most importantly during the time of pandemic, such as this. During ECQ, the Barangay would
hand out relief goods to their residents, the Barangay used a fair criteria on how they would
distribute them, but they also saw to it that every resident would receive their relief goods.
However, a resident who had the means of affording their own goods, simply refused to receive
help or ayuda from the Barangay and insisted that they give it to those who are really in need.

Contributive Justice

Justice which regulates a citizen’s obligations to the larger society and government (common
good) According to the Philippine Constitution of 1987, Article V, Section 1. Suffrage may be
exercised by all citizens of the Philippines not otherwise disqualified by law, who are at least
eighteen years of age, and who shall have resided in the Philippines for at least one year, and in
the place wherein they propose to vote, for at least six months immediately preceding the
election. No literacy, property, or other substantive requirement shall be imposed on the
exercise of suffrage. As a regular citizen, voting is the highest form of contribution to the
betterment of our country. We must elect those who are duly authorized, perfectly qualified, and
those who are just. We shall not let others taint our right to elect our country’s leader, and the
people’s representative.
SEE, JUDGE, AND ACT

The most evident and most controversial issue that we have right now is the issue of Manila
Bay. Whether the crushed Dolomite is hazardous to marine and aquatic life, and does
prolonged exposure of humans to this element could cause unusual effects. However, from the
way I see it, this Manila Bay controversy is only the beginning.

The opening of the newly placed white sand caused quite a ruckus in the Manila Bay. People
gathered without caution, without social distancing, and some without face masks, and shields.
This behavior would greatly contribute to the number of people who’ve contracted the virus.
Also, the said gathering was held in a public location, no documents for contact tracing were
issued; thus, making it a lot more difficult for our health workers to identify people who are
infected.

The renovation of Manila Bay is questionable, and untimely. Funds appropriated for the project
could’ve been used in our healthcare, as we are in a state of calamity, and the nation is in dire
need of medical assistance, let alone, in need of a proper solution, or in our case, a proper
method to flatten the curve. The vaccine is still far from our reach, all we could do is wait, as our
medical laboratories are lacking financial support from the very own government that governs
them.

This issue is truly eye opening for most of us. The renovation itself is questionable, the people
who gathered without caution for their life are greatly ridiculed, and our health is greatly
affected. We must be extra cautious and always keep in mind that once we’ve contracted the
virus, we are not the only ones in danger, our loved ones are also exposed once we’ve
contracted it.
