Mini-Workshop – Math

Lesson Description:

Topic - Skip Count by 2s, 5s, and 10s

Lesson Objective - The students will be able to model skip counting to find the total in equal

groups.

Vocabulary – equal groups

Mini-Workshop:

Math Warm Up:

I will give the students the opportunity to work in their Read It, Draw It, Solve It workbook to

get their brains ready for the math lesson.

Math Mini-Lesson:

I will introduce the topic to the students and have them tear out the worksheets in their

workbooks for pages 113-116 and also bring counters to their desks. Then, on the projector, the

teacher will model how to skip count by 5s on the Math in My World portion of page 113. Then

after proceeding to page 114, the teacher will define what equal groups are and then show a

picture example of equal groups using counters which the students will also have at their

counters as well. After, the students will be given the opportunity to show how they would do

questions 1-3 on page 114 on the guided practice portion of the sheet.
Independent Practice:

The students will then work on the Independent Practice portions on pages 115 and 116 as their

assessment to gage their understanding. They will be encouraged to use counters if needed or

can also do it in their head if needed. During this time, I will walk around and look at students

work to see how they are doing. I may even pull a few students to have a conference with them

on how they think they are doing.

Lesson Wrap Up and Sharing:

I will gather the students back together and have them share what they learned. I will also write

example problems on the board and have students explain to me how they would do the

problem.

Differentiations:

Content – I can provide different materials that students can use to help them understand how

to skip count by allowing them to use online math sources, other textbooks, or even other

worksheets/notes.

Process – The students are able to use manipulatives such as counters, blocks, their number

lines, etc.

Product – The students can do the worksheet in the book or even model to me how they

understand how to skip count using their counters.
