Mangrove Planting

One of the most noteworthy things that NSPT instils, is way beyond the boundaries

of the classrooms. It teaches and encourages us to step up, and take actions to contribute to

the upward mobility of the society. The mangrove planting, at Silay City last few weeks, is an

activity that is not foreign for me, as I already had numerous mangroves planted since high

school. However, this experience brought something new to the table, as we had to soak

our ways on too much mud and fun.

With the continuing destruction and escalating loopholes on the preservation of our

natural surroundings, I certainly believe that the mangrove planting activity is substantial.

Not only does it make us inclined with the environment, but it also makes us realize the

importance of mangrove forests. Mangroves are biodiversity protections. They serve as

shelters and habitats for different animals. Also, having mangrove ecosystems contribute to

the livelihood of the community, and are also important for clean water maintenance. In

addition, mangrove wood and other extracts for medicinal and architectural purposes.

These, and a lot more benefits are provided by mangroves, making them really important

for environment protection and conservation.

Personally, I am grateful for being able to be part of the said activity. Amid the growing

academic frustrations, my environmental spirit was awakened because of it and it is so refreshing. I

can feel so much fulfilment, knowing that after quite a time, I have done something that would have

a positive impact on the environs. I would love to spend more time for activities like this, and I hope

that everyone would get to see the beauty of being able to contribute to the nature’s preservation,

and eventually feel a beautiful sensation of being one of nature’s heroes.
