PGP4204: Enhanced Oil Recovery Processes

RESERVOIR SIMULATION TEAMWORK PROJECT DESIGN AND EXECUTION

PROJECT: A Comparative Study of Oil Production by Waterflooding and Water Alternating Gas (WAG)
Schemes

ORAL PRESENTATION

Venue: Petroleum Geoscience Learning Lab (Room 115)

Time: Wednesday, 15th April 2020, 2:00pm ‐ 5:00pm

Aims

- To present the scenarios/solutions to the teamwork problem to the class in 20 MINUTES

- To answer related questions in 5 MINUTES.

Advice

- This will be a team presentation. Each group member has to present.

- Try to put only necessary text and diagrams. Avoid long sentences; put rather simple
expressions recalling what you want to talk.
- Try to keep a single font type for the whole presentation (Arial or Calibri are preferred
mostly).
- Scale the font size for different expressions. The most important message should take
the largest size; the least the smallest. The class room is medium‐sized, would prefer a
font size range of 20‐36. Not larger, not smaller.
- Power point or PDF slides. A rule‐of‐thumb is 2 minutes per slide excluding the title and
conclusion slides.
- Adjust and rehearse your presentation a few times to make sure you are doing a good
presentation within 20 minutes. Overtime will result in loss of marks.
- Be presentable.

Recommended Structure

- Title slide – includes the course code and name, the title, all group member’s names,
and the date
- Background/literature review (1 slide) – covers the studies carried out in the past
related to your project topic.
- Problem statement (1 slide) – present the description of the problem you were given
(in your own words). You can schematically describe your simplified case study in here.
- Screening your case reservoir for corresponding EOR technology (1 slide) –
- Simply demonstrate which screening criteria work for the case you have chosen which
do not work. In other words, justify the choice of EOR method adopted for the field
- Scenarios/solutions based on design parameters (2 slides) – present how you obtained
the scenarios. Present arguments for why you have chosen those scenarios.
- Economic assessment of the project (2 slides). Basing on the NPV, state weather you
would recommend the Oil Company to undertake such a venture.
- Conclusions (1 slide)
- Relevant literature used

Assessment criteria

- The group oral presentation contributes 12 marks to the final assessment of PGP4204
- This presentation will be rated by the lecturer and a visitor from 1 to 5 (poor to
excellent).
- Presentation – 10% of 12marks is allocated to how the slides are organized, how the
Project tasks have been accomplished.
- Technical Content – 80% of 12marks for the literature review, problem description,
case study, screening, scenarios based on design parameters and solutions, as well as
economic analysis.
- General – 10% of 12marks for overall presentation, look, how it flows etc.

Attention

This presentation is a part of student learning in this course, i.e. peer learning. Hence,
attendance is mandatory. Anyone who does not attend this presentation session without
