PRINCIPLES OF MANAGEMENT

ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/22

ASSESSMENTS

1. In-class test 1 (20%) – Week 6 – February 21 - 26


Students will be given the test during their tutorial time. The test will cover units 1 – 3. It
will consist of 20 multiple choice questions and 1 case study for a duration of 1 hour and 20
minutes.

2. Group Case analysis (35%) Due Week 10 – March 21 - 26


Oral (10%) - Working in groups of 4 – 5, students will be assigned a case for analysis and
presentation using PowerPoint or Prezi. There should be not more than 15 slides.
Presentation 20 mins. Each member in the group must present to attain an individual grade
Written (25%) – Working in their group students will be provided with a case for analysis. 
The written presentation is due on or before the date indicated.

3. In-class Test 2 (25%) – Week 12 – April 4 – 9


Students will be given the test during their tutorial time. The test will cover units 4 - 7. It
will consist of 20 multiple choice questions, 1 case study, and 1 essay question, for a
duration of 1 hour and 45 minutes.
 
4. Group project (20%) Due Week 13 – April 11 - 16
 Students working in groups will select a topic to write a term paper following the
guidelines provided.  Group size: 5 – 6

One of your objectives should be to demonstrate the relationship between topic and
organizational management & performance

OUTLINE

Introduction: The introduction reveals what you are going to tell the reader
 Describe your preliminary topic,
 Tell what the overall paper will focus on
 State objectives of the paper
 Give an overview of any issues involved with the subject
 The reasons why you selected it and your initial perspective on it.
 Define key terminology needed to understand the topic
 End with a thesis statement (1 to 2 sentences in length)

Your introduction should start with a sentence that captures your reader’s attention

Body
 Present the main points as noted in the thesis
 Provide details/explanations to support each main point
 Use evidence from sources to support the main points – (paraphrase, summarise,
quote)

Conclusion
 Summarise our findings/summarise what you have told the reader
 Summarize each main point found in the body of the paper
 End with a meaningful final sentence that ties the whole point of the paper together
 Restate your thesis from the introduction in different words

References: All sources used must be accurately cited

Format:
10 – 12 pages double spaced

Cover page
o Title – based on topic selected
o Names of group members with ID numbers
o Date

Table of Contents
 Headings and sub-headings/sub-sections with page numbers.

 Print or type using a 12 point standard font, such as Times,
 Text should be double spaced on 8 1/2" x 11" paper with 1 inch margins, single sided
 Number pages consecutively
 Start each new section on a few spaces below the final sentence on the page
 Adhere to recommended page limits
 Paragraph should be easily defined
