Chapter 7

Impact of technological tools on its

reform learning process
BASIC PRINCIPLES - CONDITIONS
• the physical world places limitations on one's
experiential experience, on what one can obtain
and on the knowledge that can be built

• There is no one-dimensional truth and reality,

but many

• the world is built up in thought thinking, via the

interaction of the individual with the physical
world and the wider social community

• The products of science are the result of a

reflective process of exploring how reality
becomes the object of thought.
BASIC PRINCIPLES - CONDITIONS

• Learning is a social process and largely derives

from our everyday experiences

• The meaning of the world to human do not exist

independently of human thought and existence.
Instead, they are built through constant
interaction with the natural and social
development and through a continuous
interpretive process
IMPACT on the educational procedure

• Learning and knowledge are CONSTRUCTED in

the context of interacting with social and
physical activity and are the result of continuous
dialogue, negotiation and construction

• CONSTRACTIVISM aims at active, self-regulating

and reflective knowledge. Teaching and learning
are complex and multifaceted skills that are
constantly improved through new teaching
environments.
IMPACT on the educational procedure

• Learning is the result of their active

participation in contexts with existing structures

• learning is seen as the primary way of social

participation

• Knowledge is actively treated and knowledge is

defined as active participation within the
community, in which I own and contribute to the
building of knowledge.
IMPACT on the educational procedure

• education must respect the construction of

different realities by students

• the emphasis on assessment should be on the

building process, as well as on the ability of
students to solve problems in authentic
environments

• The student is not a passive recipient but an

active participant in the process of learning
IMPACT on the educational procedure

• the role of the teacher has changed and from a

knowledge provider becomes a mentor
(facilitator)

• the preparation of the learning environment

focus on the preparation of materials and
activities that will enable students to interact
and build knowledge

• knowledge is constructed with the help of tools

and symbols available to each community (PC,
laptop, cell phone, e-platforms, wikis etc)
IMPACT on the educational procedure

• learning communities are a serious learning

context

• teachers must constantly offer new

opportunities to learners in order to become
learners in and out of the classroom

• within these communities there is a close link

between knowledge and action
Educational technology
«Theory and application of the design,
development, use, management, and evaluation of
learning processes and materials».

• a systematic approach aimed at improving

human learning

• Technology has the potential to support

restructuring an educational system and the
curriculum it offers

• computers and technology in general must be

treated as means used as perceptual tools
Οnline communities
combine the elements of the three models
discussed:
 Constructivism
 situated learning
 learning communities.

• they must strive to maintain the constitution

and cohesion that characterizes each community

• They are constantly growing and constantly

developing new ways of using information and
communication technologies
Οnline communities
combine the elements of the three models
discussed:
 Constructivism
 situated learning
 learning communities.

• The evidence so far confirms that the most

effective way of training is a combination of
traditional - in - person - and "technological"
teaching.
Οnline communities
 Mistakes are welcomed
 Students realize the mistakes by their own
 Training material is self-corrected
 Students correct them selves and other
students
 mistakes are what keep students moving
forward
 there needs to be no winner, we are all here to
get improved
BLENDED LEARNING
a new educational model that combines the
provision of:

• Face-to-face training in formal places

(classroom, lab or amphitheater)

and

• and distance education in the provision of e-

learning services, in a comprehensive
environment.

BLENDED LEARNING
combines the BEST elements of the “two worlds”
but the most important is that
covers the weaknesses of the “two worlds”

• Exploited the immediacy and effectiveness of

face-to-face learning and the increasing
flexibility and optimization of distance learning
teaching resources and tools

• It is enriched with lifelong educational

strategies and active techniques that are
difficult to apply in the traditional way of
teaching.

ENVIRONMENT
CLASSROOM/LAB INTEGRATION PRIVATE ROOM
Massive open online course (MOOC)
MOOC is an online course aimed at unlimited
participation and open access via the web

• provide interactive courses with user forums or

social media discussions to support community
interactions among students, professors, and
teaching assistants as well as immediate
feedback to quick quizzes and assignments

• emphasized open-access features, such as open

licensing of content, structure and learning
goals, to promote the reuse and remixing of
resources
ACTIVITY 7
In 300 words, list and explain the criteria by which you would choose the
technological environment in which to develop your online course.
