CHAPTER I
PRELIMINARY
Background
Education is a guidance given by adults to children who are not yet mature to achieve goals,
namely maturity. Based on this, education is related to the interaction between educators and
students in order to achieve goals. education that takes place in an educational environment.
Through education, there is a learning process for individuals to acquire knowledge. Physics is
one of the field studies of Natural Sciences (IPA) which studies events and phenomena that occur
in the universe, so physics is said to be a technological foundation that is reasonable enough to be
given to students as provisions for facing life in the future. Studying physics is not just relying on
books, this is because experimentation supports the theory of these books.
Through practicum activity, students can learn sa ins with direct observation of the symptom-ge
nets or processes of science, can train scientific skills, can Menan amkan and develop methods of
science, and can help students' understanding of the learning. Therefore, the laboratory requires
the provision of tools and materials as well as good management so that the implementation of
physics learning can run optimally.
To achieve the science learning process, every educational institution is required to have
supporting facilities that can be used to achieve the objectives of learning physics. One of them is
the use of the laboratory as a means of learning and teaching students. In Candy diknas No. 24 of
2007. Utilization da n management science laboratories as fasilit as school must consider factors
condition and quality of the facilities, because of two factors ter call can influence directly to the
learning process.

JOURNAL SUMMARY 1
The research subjects in this journal are teachers and students in each school in SMA /
MA in Salatiga City. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method consisting of
documentation, interviews and questionnaires. In this study, the questionnaire data obtained were
data on the use of the physics laboratory of SMA / MA in Salatiga with a qualitative percentage.
Data analysis or processing is an important step in research. Data analysis technique is an effort
to find data and organize systematically the results of observations, questionnaires, interviews
and documentation to improve research understanding of the cases studied and present them with
data triangulation techniques.
5
Availability of Physics Practicum Equipment for SMA / MA in Salatiga City
Schools in the City of Salatiga have a less even distribution of student input. Some
schools do not meet the standard criteria for students studying at these schools. Thus, the
inventory of practicum tools is adjusted to the capacity of students studying at the school.
7
Based on the results of observations, this condition is due to the absence of management
personnel and teachers who are busy teaching in class, so that the management of laboratory
operations is not running optimally.

JOURNAL SUMMARY 2
Sanjaya (2008: 26) states that learning is a process of collaboration between teachers
and students in utilizing all existing potential and resources, both potential that comes from
within students such as interests, talents, and basic abilities possessed, including learning styles
and potential. That is outside the student such as the environment, facilities, and learning
resources as an effort to achieve certain learning goals. In other words, learning is a process to
help students learn well. The learning process is experienced throughout a human's life and can
be applied anywhere and anytime. Learning has a meaning that is similar to teaching, although
it has different connotations.
One of the methods used by the teacher is a demonstration or experiment, namely
activities carried out in the laboratory. Realizing the importance of the laboratory in supporting
the success of a lesson, teachers usually choose this alternative, where students also find it
easier to understand because students can find directly the formulation of the material being
taught and are more attached to students. With the development of the times, the demands for
curriculum renewal continue to increase, for example, this year the public high school in
Jember uses the 2013 curriculum, where in this curriculum students are required to be active in
finding the concept of learning material.
Basically, the existence of a physics laboratory and physics subjects cannot be
separated, but not all schools make good use of the laboratory, there are still schools that ignore
the existence of a physics laboratory. School laboratories from one school to another have
different types in terms of management, facilities in the laboratory, inventory of tools and the
physical form of the laboratory. This difference can occur because the ability to manage the
laboratory of each school varies in terms of providing tools, inventory of tools, and repair of
tools. Laboratory management requires good human resources as well as sufficient financial
resources to facilitate the laboratory. This research can provide more insight to schools to pay
more attention to laboratory management, laboratory infrastructure and physics teachers to be
more able to maximize the use of laboratories as practicum places given the importance of
9
using laboratories. The importance of the role of laboratory activities to achieve the goals of
science education there are four reasons for the importance of science practicum activities,
namely practicum to generate motivation to learn science, practicum develops basic skills to
conduct experiments, practicum becomes a vehicle for learning scientific approaches, practicum
supports subject matter.
The type of research used is descriptive research. According to Sugiyono (2005) states
that descriptive research is a study that is used to describe or analyze a research result but is not
used to make broader conclusions. The purpose of this descriptive research is to make
descriptions, descriptions, or paintings systematically, factually and accurately regarding the
facts, properties and relationships between the phenomena being investigated so as to obtain
information about the current state and see the relationship between variables .
The population studied was the State Senior High School in Jember Regency which
was selected by purposive sampling in order to describe the laboratory of each school. The
samples taken by researchers were 5 public high schools in Jember Regency. Where the 5 SMA
that I chose are in Jember Regency. The sample collection aims to describe laboratory
management and the intensity of laboratory use in supporting the implementation of high
school physics learning.
Data from interviews, questionnaires, or observations are then analyzed or discussed
and given meaning for the data presented. The results of the questionnaire obtained from class
XI IPA students will obtain the following percentages:
T= 𝑛𝑁 x 100%...................equation 1
With :
T = percentage of each questionnaire
n = questionnaire score obtained
N = total questionnaire score
The data that has been obtained is then processed, in order to obtain a percentage that can be
interpreted in the form of a sentence (qualitative), to determine the extent to which the intensity
of the use of the physics laboratory at SMA Negeri Jember Regency is used.
Table 1. Analysis of the percentage of questionnaires Predicate of the Intensity of Laboratory Use
Percentage Intensity Use of Laboratory
80% < T > 100% Very Good
60% < T > 80% Good
10
40% < T > 60% Good Enough
20% < T > 40% Not Good
0% < T > 20% Not Good
The results of observations made directly at the time of researching the facilities and
infrastructure of the physics laboratory of state high schools in Jember Regency The facilities
and infrastructure of the laboratory can be said to be good, moderate and bad if they comply
with the criteria determined on the observation sheet that has been made by the researcher listed
in the attachment. Facilities and infrastructure are said to meet the standards if they are in
accordance with Permendiknas No.24 of 2007.
Observation results are adjusted or equated with the standards set by the government,
namely the Law No. 24/2007 concerning the minimum standards that must be owned by a
physics laboratory in SMA / MA. Interview results are obtained only to support the results of
observations and questionnaire results where the results of the interview will be delivered or
described in accordance with the results of the interviews that have been conducted. The results
of a questionnaire that has been distributed to 150 respondents, where 30 respondents per
school, obtained the following data:
Facilities and infrastructure in 5 SMA Negeri Jember Regency obtained good data but still not
in accordance with the guidelines that should be fulfilled, namely from government regulation
no 24 of 2007 concerning the minimum standards that must be owned by a physics laboratory
in SMA / MA so that there are still a lot of tools and tools. equipment that must be fulfilled,
where there are still many schools that are lacking in the fulfillment of tools, for example,
transformers, gap loads, and frequency generators and equipment.
