Introductory Message

This is a two-way flow module between the teacher and the learner
which is designed to meet the needs of the 21st century learners. It is tied up on a
holistic approach in developing hands-on, minds-on learners. The lessons are
presented in spiral progression to achieve proficiency in basic life skills. The activities
are fun, simple and are carefully chosen to tailor fit the interests of the learners and
to instill in them the sense of diversity, adaptability and sensitivity.

With this module, the writers hope that the learner would be ready
with the essential basic life skills and concepts through learning by doing.

The module is all about Lesson 4: Appropriate Tools and Equipment


in Plant Propagation.

With the guidance of the teachers, the activities in this learning


module will support the learners to be proficient in their own understanding of the

understand and identify the appropriate tools and equipment in plant propagation
and their uses. The scope of this module permits it to be used in many different

WHAT IS IT

Plant propagation is a process of producing new plants from existing plants


that can be found in your garden. It can be done through a number of methods.
Plants can be propagated from cuttings or from seeds or even through layering a
branch.

You might be thinking that plant propagation is just all about soil, seeds,
water and sunlight. But what you didn’t know is that it is lot of hard work made
easier when you use the appropriate tools and equipment.

For you to become a successful propagator, there is a need of great knowledge


about the usage appropriate tools and equipment to be used in plant propagation.
Using the appropriate tools and equipment in plant propagation yields best
outcomes.

Here are some of the tools that you will help you make your task faster and
easier:

1. Hoe
It is a tool used for digging and loosening hard
and dry soil. It has a thin blade through the end
of a long handle.

It is a long handled tool having a bar at one
end with prongs in it. It is used to
smoothen soil and gather loose leaves, hay,
or straw.

3. Trowel
It is a tool with a curved blade used for
loosening ground and taking up small plants.

handlebar used for cutting trunk of trees and

It is a straight, heavy iron bar pointed at one

digging holes for planting seedlings.

Plant propagation- a process of increasing the number of plants.
