READING IN VISUAL ARTS

Differentiate the following :

• RHYTHM AND PATTERN

The difference between rhythm and pattern is that , pattern is a combination of elements that
are repeated while the rhythm is involves using intervals or spaces between elements to give
the user an impression of rhythm or movement.

Also, the two words have different but related meanings. A pattern is a general term for
anything that has repetition or other regularity, so it can be seen, heard or otherwise perceived.
People often talk about patterns on a dress, or patterns in behavior. And rhythm is a pattern in
time, most commonly used to describe music or speech.

• PRINCIPLE AND ELEMENTS

The difference between principle and elements. The elements are the parts that define the
visual, the tools and components that a person uses to create a composition. In other words,
they represent the base of graphic design. The principles on the other hand, are all about how a
person uses the elements to create a visual and convey a message. Principles is also the laws of
designing anything. In other words, to have a good design, you should consider these principles
for the best design possible. Element on the other hand are things that are involved within
making a design.

The major difference between principles and elements is that principles are rules you have to
follow and elements are things that will help you complete those rules for the best project
outcome.

• SPACE AND PERSPECTIVE

The difference between space and perspective. Space is the boundless three-dimensional
extent in which objects and events have relative position and direction. In addition, space is
often conceived in three linear dimensions, although modern physicists usually consider it, with
time, to be part of a boundless four-dimensional continum known as spacetime. While
perspective also means the ability to consider things in relation to one another accurately and
fairly.
• SYMMETRICAL AND ASYSMMETRICAL BALANCE

The major difference between symmetrical and asymmetrical is that , Symmetrical occurs when
equal weights are on equal sides of a composition, balanced around a fulcrum or axis in the
center while the Asymmetrical results from unequal visual weight on each side of the
composition.

If you know that symmetrical means that both sides of something are identical, then it should
be easy to learn that asymmetrical means the opposite: the two sides are different in some
way. Asymmetrical things are irregular and crooked, and don't match up perfectly when folded
in half.

• LINEAR AND ARIEL PERSPECTIVE

Linear perspective in comparison to aerial is a view in which the vanishing point aligns all the
objects and figures within a drawing or painting to create a focal point for them. Also linear is to
create an illusion of space whereas aerial is to create an illusion of depth.

In addition with this, Ariel perspective can be demonstrate as a mountain range in which the
mountain of a distance appear lighter in value and , a bit cooler ni color or bluer and hue. Aerial
perspective is a form of representing more distant objects in art forms as fainter and more blue.
While that Linear perspective is a technique used by artist which factors such as size, shape,
and position of objects is depicted by drawn or imagined lines meeting at a point on the
horizon.
