PHILIPPINES
• Philippines is located above the
equator and on the Pacific Ring of Fire.
The Ring of Fire, also referred to as
the Circum-Pacific Belt, is a path
along the Pacific Ocean
characterized by active volcanoes
and frequent earthquakes that makes
Philippines as one of the most receptive
countries in the world to disaster and
climate change.
• Southeastern Asia is
the southeastern region of Asia,
consisting of the regions that are
geographically south of China, east of
the Indian subcontinent and north-west
of Australia and an archipelago between
the Philippine Sea and the South China
Sea, east of Vietnam. The Philippines is
now considered to have 7,641 total
islands (no longer just 7,107) after its
government mapping agency,
NAMRIA(National Mapping and
Resource Information Authority)
conducted a comprehensive survey of its
territory. The archipelago is divided into
three major island groups which are
called the Island of Luzon, Visayas and
Mindanao. These three island groups are
represented by the three stars on the
Philippine flag. These are further divided
into 17 regions, 81 provinces, 145 cities,
1,489 municipalities, and
42,036 barangays.
• The largest island is Luzon , second
largest is Mindanao Island followed by
Visayas Island.

Section 11. The creation of the National Service
Reserve Corps – There is hereby created a
National Service Reserve Corps, to be
composed of the graduates of the non-ROTC
components. Members of this corps may be
tapped by the state for literacy and civic welfare
activities through the joint effort of the DND,
CHED, and TESDA.
