Cleopatra was born in 69 BCE and she was Greek. Cleopatra was well-educated and she
became queen of Egypt at age 18. When Cleopatra was 22 years old, she had a son with
Julius Caesar. However, Caesar died in 44 BCE. Then, Cleopatra met Marc Antony and
they had three children.
In the summer of 30 BCE, Rome invaded Egypt. Rather than accept defeat, Marc
Antony and Cleopatra killed hemselves when she was 39 years old. The cause of her
death was probably by a snake. After Cleopatra died, she wasn´t honored by the
Romans because they didn´t want Egyptians to remember their former. For that reason,
we don't really know if she was a beautiful woman or not.
Archaeologists have started searching the Mediterranean near Alexandria, Cleopatra's
home. She's probably buried near there. So far, they've brought up 20,000 objects from
the sea. Many probably existed during Cleopatra's lifetime.

Homework 2
My name is Marissa Jaramillo and I want to be a cultural ambassador because
I am interested in learning more about Australia. I also want to teach others
about my country Peru. I believe that my studies and experience have
prepared me to participate in the ACEX program in different ways.
For a person to be a good cultural ambassador, I think they must be sociable
and know their culture. I think I am. For example. I have been studying about
the history behind the traditional dances of my country for the last four years.
One of the most representative dances is the Huaylas. Huaylas is a typical
dance of the central highlands where the dancers imitate the movements they
perform in the field during the planting of potatoes. Dancers require strength,
skill, and dexterity to perform this dance. I practice four hours a week and I
love it. When I was 5 years old, I started dancing. At that age, I participated
in a contest at the "Felipe Pardo y Aliaga" Theater. I enjoy dancing because it
´s a way of expressing our culture.
Also, I have always liked to know other cultures. I have never traveled
outside of Peru, but I have had the opportunity to have friends of different
nationalities. I spoke with some of them about the customs of their countries
in English. I think that this experience has also prepared me to participate in
this program.
I am ready to go on a great adventure: to be a cultural ambassador in
Australia. I think it´s important to learn about the customs of other countries
and share your own with the rest of the world. I hope you will consider my
