ACTIVITY 3: “INTENSIFY YOUR LEARNING”

FRIDA KAHLO
Frida Kahlo was considered one of the greatest artists in
Mexico and began painting mostly self-portraits after she was
seriously injured in a bus accident. Kahlo later became politically
active and married the communist artist Diego Rivera in 1929.
Life experience is a common theme in Kahlo's roughly 200
paintings, sketches, and drawings. Her self-portraits were not
only insights into, but also a catharsis for the chronic pain and
illness Kahlo suffered for most of her life. Her physical and
emotional pain are starkly displayed on the canvases, as is her
turbulent relationship with her husband, fellow artist Diego
Rivera, whom she married twice. Of her 143 paintings, 55 are
self-portraits. Kahlo channelled her Mexicanisimo however, and
used her health issues as a catalyst for her creativity, where her
paintbrush provided an almost spiritual guide on how to cope
with chronic disease.

a) As a visual artist I ensure my safety when I doing my work. I avoid the toxin and carcinogenic
materials that can be ingested, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Washing my hand properly.
Must kept the area clean and to breath adequate fresh air.
b) It’s not a worth to risk my own health from my work of art.
