Languages seem to have special characteristics or personalities: for example, French is

romantic; German is scientific; Russian is soulful; Spanish is hot-blooded; Italian is

emotional; Chinese is simple and straightforward; Japanese is spiritual and Zen-like;
English is logical; Greek is philosophical, and so on.

Do you believe there can be any truth that lies behind such claims? Why or why not?

I do believe any truth that lies behind the claim. In my opinion, I think language is not
just a tool to communication with others, different languages have different special
personalities even if talking with same things.

why people think English is logical?

In my point of view, I think the Chinese language is more metaphorical, such as a simple
sentence. Even if you know all the meanings of every single words in a sentence, it is still
not enough to guess the actual meaning of the sentence. It is easy to make
misunderstanding when compare with English.
For example:
他是我剛認識的英傑的哥哥
First explanation: 「我」認識了「我剛認識的英傑」「的哥哥」
Second explanation:「我剛認識的」「英傑的哥哥」?

In English version
He is jack’s brother who I just met.

That is the first reason why language have special characteristics and why English is
more logical than the other language.

The other point of view is the pronunciation of different language. In English languages,
when we are facing a word you don’t know how to pronounce, people will try to use the
rules from “phonics” to get a similar or even the accurate pronunciation of the word.
. On the other side, Chinese is not a phonetic language. Unlike English, Chinese words
are constructed by strokes and those strokes doesn’t produce a particular sound.
Therefore, a combination of those strokes cannot let the speakers to easy trace out the
specific pronunciation of that word. For instance “蕭” , by simply look at the word, you
have no clue to guess the pronunciation though the word. This may be some of the
reason why English is logical than Chinese.
I think people who propose the claim generally has Misconception on language
