Section- A (5*1=5)
1. Give dimensions of power and gravitational constant.
2. When a bullet is fired from a rifle,it is more dangerous than air
molecule hitting a personal though both of them have almost same
speed. Why does it happen?
3. Mention the reason why do a concrete floor prepared in sections.
4. What is young’s modulus for a perfect rigid body?
5. What does slope of velocity –time graph represent?
Section- B (7*2=14)
6. State and prove work energy theoram
7. If a gas is contained in a closed vessel, then explain how the
pressure due to the gas will be affected,if force of attraction
between the molecules disappears suddenly?
8. Differentiate between isothermal process and adiabatic process.
9. If the speed of stone is increased beyond the maximum
permissible value and the string breaks suddenly, which of the
following correctly describe the trajectory of the stone after the
string breaks.
 The stone moves radially outwards.
 The stone flies off tangentially from the instant the string
breaks.
 The stone flies off at an angle with the tangent whose
magnitude depends on the speed of particle?
OR
Determine the collection of friction when a body is placed on a
rough inclined plan just begins to slide and that moment, the
slope of plane is equal to 1 in 4.
10. State limitations of first law of thermodynamics.
11.Answer the following questions:
a) If a man wearing a wristwatch on his hand falls from the
top of tower, then state whether the watch give the correct
time or not during the free fall.
b) How do the time period of simple pendulum get affected,if
it is transferred from earth to the surface of moon.
c) Explain why do the restoring force does not depend on the
amplitude instead of being on displacement?
12. State and prove law of conservation of linear
momentum.

SECTION C (12*3=36)
13. The frequency v of vibrations of a stretched string depends
upon
a) length l
b) mass per unit length m
c) tension T in the string
obtain dimensionally formulae for frequency v .
14. State and prove Bernaulli’s theorem.
15. Two blocks, M1 and M2 having masses 2 kg and 5 kg
respectively are connected by an ideal string passing over a
pulley (Figure 2). The block M1 is free to slide on a rough

surface inclined at an angle of 30 with the horizontal whereas

the block M2 hangs freely. Find the acceleration of the
system and the tension in the string. Given  = 0.30.

16. Derive an expression for the time period of a simple pendulum
under small oscillations.
17. Obtain an expression for a stationary wave formed by
superposition of two identical sinusoidal waves.
18 calculate moment of inertia of a rigid body.
19. Establish a relation for orbital speed of a satellite orbiting
very close to the surface of the Earth.
20. State and explain the principle of conservation of angular
momentum.
OR
Explain if angular momentum and rotational kinetic energy
can be conserved in a system whose moment of inertia is
decreased.
21 6.A waterfall is 100 m high. How much warmer will the
water be after the fall? Assume that all the work gets converted
into the heat energy. Take the average value of g to be 980 .
22. Prove that the impulse received during an impact is equal to
the total change in momentum produced during the impact.
23. State the law of equipartition of energy. Show that the ratio
of specific heat at constant pressure to specific heat at constant
volume is 7/5 for a rigid diatomic molecule.
24 Give physical examples of Newton’s third law of motion.
SECTION D (5*3=15)
25. (i) Explain the phenomenon of beats
(ii) What is meant by ‘beat frequency’?
OR
(a) An organ pipe produces 4 beats/s when sounded with
a tuning fork of frequency 512 Hz. When sounded with
another tuning fork of frequency 514 Hz, it produces 6
beats/s. Find the frequency of the organ pipe. Explain
your answer.
26. A body (like a ring, a sphere, a cylinder, etc) starts
rolling from rest from the top of an inclined plane, without
slipping. Prove that its linear translational velocity v at the
bottom of the inclined plane of height h is given by:
v2 = 𝟐𝒈𝒉
𝟏+K
𝑹𝟐
where K is the radius of gyration of the body about its symmetry
axis and R is its radius.
Using the above said result, find out which of the two
bodies, a ring or a solid sphere will reach the ground
with greater velocity?
OR
Prove that in an elastic one-dimensional collision
