Brannon
Educator   Dear Center of Sustainability Hiring Team,

My name is Derek Brannon and I am currently a Social Studies educator

Marketing & Outreach
and help run and operate a recording studio in Denver, Colorado. I am
ㅡ  writing you this letter because I am very interested in several of the
Part-Time positions you currently have available. Sustainability is
Derek Brannon  something I am quite passionate about as someone with a nearly fully
969 Xavier St  plant-based diet and a regular light-rail commuter. I am a native
Denver, CO 80204  Coloradoan and I have a deep relationship with the environment,
970.631.3575  specifically with issues of water use.
derekbr26@gmail.com
I am currently pursuing a Doctorate of Curriculum and Instruction at the
University of Denver, and I work for a non-profit called the History
Colorado Center. At HCC, I am a School Programs Facilitator and I bring
social-justice and sustainability-focused Colorado History to students of
all age-groups and socio-economic backgrounds. Nearly every exhibit
has a lot to say about water use in the state, and it’s a conversation I
actively lead everytime I teach. Before this position, I worked as a Guest
Teacher for DPS and am very excited for another opportunity to work
with students from a diverse background. My research focus at DU is
exploring how social studies educators can inspire political activism in
their students of color, something that I am extremely passionate about.
While all of this focuses on my educational background, I am also a
committed musician and handle marketing and customer service for a
rehearsal space and recording studio in Denver.

I help run and operate The Band Cave Studios, and have done so for a
year and a half. During this time I have maintained audio and music
equipment, scheduled and ran the rehearsal spaces, and worked on
several recording projects. I have spent the last 5 years touring off and
on with my own band, and also spend time as a DIY promoter in Denver,
putting together shows for touring and local punk bands. I manage all of
the social media accounts for The Band Cave, creating content which is
focused on celebrating local and national artists. I have spearheaded
several projects whose intended goals were various forms of outreach
targeting the local music community in Denver. I believe my experience
in teaching about sustainability and leading outreach projects make me a
good candidate for several of the positions you have available.

I look forward to hearing back from you!

Derek Brannon
