INTRODUCTION:

The Philippines has many sources of water because of its rich land with an estimation of
130 km^3/year of internal water resource. However, According to (Water.org, 2020) out of 105
million people living in the Philippines, they estimated that there are at least 7 million people
who can’t access fresh water. Because of the improvements of its economy the Demand for fresh
water in the country are rapidly increasing. Due to the urbanization of different provinces and
cities, some of these places are experiencing water shortage and deficiency in sanitation. Coastal
areas are the most affected places in gradual depletion of Fresh water because even though
they’re surrounded by water from the sea and ocean, they can’t access it because it’s not fresh.
The Philippines needs to have alternative resources of fresh water because most of the Jobs in the
Philippines are connected to agricultural Industry including farming as it plays significant role to
our growing economy. 40% of Philippines’ populations are workers of Agricultural Industry. As
stated by the NIA, the Philippines has about 10.3 mm ha agricultural lands but unfortunately
there 3.1 million ha are irrigable. Farmers needed fresh water for irrigation system which is a
process where a farming land is watered with consistency to be able to maintain the crops until
the harvest season.
