1. Read the document "What is Pastafarianism?" from our Blackboard page. While this is
an amusing and funny creation myth, try to figure out the purpose of why this narrative
was created.

- After reading the document regarding Pastafarianism and researching about its
creation I found that the creator, Bobby Henderson created it back in 2005 because it
was in protest at the decision by the Kansas State Board of Education to require the
teaching of intelligent design as an alternative to evolution in the state’s public
schools. My own take away from this was that Bobby Henderson also proved how
any basis for believing in a higher being comes from our deep connection to the
unknown. He created this “religion” as a parody yet since then there are real people
who believe in his parody as truth.

2. Is this myth of creation absurd? How absurd is this myth compared to other accepted
narratives of creation (i.e. Judeo-Christian tradition, Scientology, Egyptian creation myth,
etc.)?

- The absurdness of this so called “religion” compared to other narratives to religion

isn’t that far fetched as you might come to think. As I said religion became a thing
because we as humans always had a fascination of the unknown like life after death
and who created us. Our desire to know the unknown has led us as a collective to
provide ourselves with a higher power or a higher form on knowledge to give us a
way to believe or an answer to what we could never fully answer. Being a Catholic
myself growing up knowing that Jesus died for our sins the same way a flying
spaghetti monster created the universe for another our context of believing lies on
our roots, our childhood and how we grew up.

3. Share a myth/narrative that has greatly influenced how you see and understand reality
(It can be a contemporary narrative or work of fiction if you prefer that). What is the
function of this narrative to your life, and how does it influence you despite the fact that
you know that it is a work of fiction?

- The movie “The Giver” ever since seeing it greatly influenced me despite it’s fictional
nature. That movie helped me understand how even if our world or society isn’t
perfect or it isn’t a utopia without it our emotions and our very nature of being human
is lost. In the movie they showed how good and bad never really existed because
without one the other dose not get recognized. The concept of good and evil stems
from out human experiences that help us fully encapsulate our desire to fix and learn
from our problems and the way I see it humans aren’t perfect but that’s what make
us human to make mistakes to achieve greatness and to live a life worth living
because if there’s anything I’ve learned from religion is whoever made us made us to
be what we are today and to take that away isn’t human at all.
