Here, we have a truss structure with seven elements. We want to optimize that to minimize weight.

First of all, we must notice the relation between these elements with the weight to can easily find our
variables. The Areas of these elements will be our variables.

A1=A6=X1, A2=A4=X2, A3=A5=X3, and A7=X4

Assume that Syt=420 Mpa and the length as we can see is constant.

I choice these variables as I mentioned above because they will play a vital role in the next
steps as a cost function and constrain, so we need to optimize a minimize weight, in this way
we choice the areas.

The objective, refer to minimize weight which we want it, and it’s a relation between the areas
and constant length.

In the end, the constraints, it is our boundaries we will make the results in the perfect view by
that when we analyze the angles with the cross-section area and the load (p) and made all
these values less or equal to Syt.
