RESEÑA
Characteristics of the Environmental Problem
The global environmental problem constitutes a growing concern in human societies taking into
account the main characteristics such as:
Climate change is the great environmental problem that humanity will face during the next decade,
but it is not the only one. Society's concern for the quality of the environment is a reality that is
becoming increasingly important. One of the effects that the population perceives with the greatest
intensity is environmental pollution and, within it, air pollution. This concern presents a series of
very interesting characteristics to analyze in order to understand the forces that motivate it, and at
the same time to seek ways of solving the problems that are detected.
The environment is endangered by various threats that endanger not only ecosystems, but all human
beings. Knowing environmental problems is the first step to become aware of their importance to
claim and participate in actions for the protection and recovery of nature. For example, global
warming induced by CO2 emissions is accelerating climate change and threatens the survival of
millions of people, animals and plants by causing increasingly frequent and extreme weather events
such as droughts, fires and floods. This phenomenon forces us to take measures to mitigate its
effects and adapt to its consequences, contaminated water also causes significant health problems.
The diverse and serious ecological disasters caused by industrial development and human activity
have caused further concern. The environment is the main source of resources for the development
of productive processes, for direct consumption and therefore, for the economy.
Environmental problems can be stated at different levels, global, regional, local and particular,
corresponding to each problem a more appropriate level of action for its treatment. However, all
these problems together are leading to a disorder in natural processes and consequently to a series
of disasters that can cause irreparable damage to the planet.
The pollution generated in the world grows daily and the worst thing is that the degree of awareness
of the population to global environmental problems is minimal, people are not aware of the damage
caused and for this reason it is so difficult to try to repair actions provoked by the growth and
development of humanity
At present there is evidence of an important environmental problem of a planetary nature. Some of
these problems are grouped under the term "global change", which includes:
• climate change
• global warming
• the ozone hole
• the destruction of the humid tropical forest
• The greenhouse effect
• the decline in biodiversity
• the conservation of the oceans
• desertification
Day by day in the world solutions to the various pollution problems are generated, but this is not
enough since environmental problems in the world continue to grow; The reason is that many of
the industries do not take into account the damage they generate and continue working without any
type of restriction; This has changed a bit since government entities have promoted a series of laws
that oblige these companies to take measures that greatly remedy the pollution that occurs, this is
a great advance because if environmental management continues to grow it will be promoted the
care of the environment and the remediation of some problems will be more evident. This will
reduce pollution a little in some specific places and consequently will improve the quality of life
and the interaction between people and their environment.
