Answer the following questions. Try to be specific and explain your answers briefly. You may use figures
or drawings in your answers. Answer with your own words and examples. Submitted outputs must be in
google docs or in pdf form. You may fill this gdocs or rewrite your answers in a clean sheet of paper then
submit as a pdf. Use scanner apps like CleanScan or CamScanner if you are to submit. Use a different
font color on your answers but don’t use red or too bright colors.

1. Differentiate between accuracy and precision.

The difference between accuracy and precision is that accuracy pertains to how close are the
measurements to the genuine or actual value of the number while precision refers to how near
are the measured values to each other.

2. Give instances or examples where one can be:

a. Accurate and precise

When Lebron James is shooting the ball in the same way for five times and each of them made it
in the basket.

b. Accurate but not precise

When Messi kicks the ball in every side of the goal and all of his attempts scored.

c. Precise but not accurate

When Farrell kicks the rugby ball in the same direction multiple times but it never made it to the
goal.

*If ever any of the instances is not possible, explain why.

3. Explain the importance of using significant figures in measurement.

One of the importance of using significant figures in measurement is that , it allows engineers to
determine how precise a data is and how much uncertainty is present. It also helps in the
tracking of data or measurements since there is no 100% accurate measuring device.

4. Describe “uncertainty” in measurement and on how it can affect accuracy or precision.

Uncertainty is the measurement of how much the measured numbers are greater and lesser
than the standard or expected value . If the measured data are not very accurate or precise ,
then the uncertainty of your data will be so high that it might deemed inaccurate or not precise.
5. What is the reading of the measuring instrument below:

a. A block of wood is measured with the ruler

 25.7

b. A block of wood is measured with a meter stick

 31.4

6. Considering an analog measuring instrument, draw the following readings on how it

would look like in the measuring device. You may use any display type or analog device
to show the readings.
a. 5.173 ohms

b. 0.7685 mm
