The Pendulum

TASK I
Independent Variable: weight (100g)
Dependent or Controllable Variable: length of string
Does the length of the string affect the period of the weight?

LENGTH PERIOD CYCLE

6 inches 12 seconds 10 cycles

11 inches 17 seconds 10 cycles

16 inches 20 seconds 10 cycles

21 inches 22 seconds 10 cycles

26 inches 25 seconds 10 cycles

CONCLUSION:
According to the data taken during the experiment, I therefore conclude that the
weight of the object hanging from the string has no effect on the length of the string.
The period depends on the length of the string which the weight is hanged on.
Changing the length of the string of a pendulum can change the length of the period of
a pendulum. Longer pendulums swing with a lower frequency than shorter
pendulums, and thus have a longer period. When the length of the string is long, the
slower the period. The shorter the length of the string, the faster we can accomplish 10
cycles.

The Pendulum
TASK II
Independent Variable: length of string (16 in)
Dependent or Controllable Variable: weight
Does the mass of the weight affect the period of the weight?

MASS PERIOD CYCLE

50 grams 20 seconds 10 cycles

100 grams 20 seconds 10 cycles

150 grams 20 seconds 10 cycles

200 grams 20 seconds 10 cycles

250 grams 20 seconds 10 cycles

CONCLUSION:
According to the data taken during the experiment in relation with
pendulums, I conclude that the mass does not affect the pendulum’s swing
particularly, the period of the weight because force and mass are proportional and
when the mass increases so does the force. As the force increases so does the
acceleration and along with gravity are the factors that affects a pendulum swing. The
period of a pendulum does not depend on the mass, but depends only on the length of
the string. Since as what we have observed, even if we change the weight of the object,
the period of the time to finish 10 cycles is the same.
