OB Assignment

The Organisational behaviour course wasnot only a subject but also a way to introspect and
know your inner self.There were various aspects covered in the course which paved a easier
path to understand and reflect on oneself and develop objectives to be a better version of
themselves.
In my personal experience,the course will help me to pause and think for a while why I am
behaving the way I am.MBA would help us transform into better mangers and leaders.Before
the OB course I used to believe that better a manager is one who is able to manage others
better.But I realized that a manager needs to understand himself before managing others.We all
have different personality traits which gives us a glimpse of our inner self.Understanding our
personality traits would help us identify our strength,weaknesses and help us make better
managerial decisions.A very powerful tool known as MBTI was introduced by Upadhyay sir to
understand the personality type of individuals.The four dichotomies namely
Extaversion,sensing,Thinking and Judging is used to judge individual preferences.A moderation
of all the dichotomies is ideal and extreme may be detrimental to ones professional life.I am an
ambivert and more towards the feeling and perceiving personalityWhen I lookback at my past
work experience I realize that I concerned too much about my team and other colleagues that
sometimes I was ready to take up their unfinished task.I had a lot of personal touch will my other
colleagues which made me way to take decisions which the grup may nt like.In future I would
ensure a balance of thinking and feeling behaviour and learn to collaborate and also critique or
provide constructive feedback when required.

Motivation is a an essential factor to drive workplace efficiency and productivity.While working in


my previous organization I realized that the productivity increases with enhancement in
mood.There are various theories which emphasizes on the factors to increase the workplace
mood and motivation.The Herzberg two factor theory introduced in the OB course is one such
example which has allowed me retrospect and understand that motivator factors such as
recognition,personal growth,type of work,ownership and responsibility etc imparts job
satisfaction and inadvertently improve productivity.The hygiene factors such as coworker
relations,base wage,salary do not play a significant role in employee satisfaction and motivation.

One of my favourite theories which I came across in the OB course was the Johari window. each
person is represented by their own four-quadrant, or four-pane, window. Each of these contains and
represents personal information - feelings, motivation - about the person, and shows whether the
information is known or not known by themselves or other people.I analysed and found that the blind
spot are is more than the public spot.I is in congruation with my behaviour in my previous organization
where I did not take or give valuable feedbacks.I have understood the power of feedback and would
look to broaden the public arena open by indulging in proper feedback mechanisms.
The course covered various aspects of learship and its style.A leader needs to built credibility to
maintain the balance between organization and the workforce.Leadership is all about emotions.I As an
aspiring and successful leader I wish to have few qualities that every leader should have.This includes
inspireothers,challenging status quo,active participation and less delegation,commands respect etc.

One of the powerful tools to understand the skill and behaviour of leader is the Blake and mountain
managerial grid.I figured out that I was high on productivity by comparatively moderate on people.A
high productivity often leads lto lesser human and personal touch.In future I wish to work with like
minded people to drive maimum productivity with high human connection.This will also create avenue
for better feedback channels inadvertently enhancing productivity.

A innate ability of a good manager or leader is to have good transaction between all the
stakeholders.Transaction is any activity or communication between two or more persons.Three principle
of TA includes ego states,life positions,stroking.ITA helped me to understand that I had a child ego state
who likes to adaptive others.I am moulded more by the opinions and thoughts of people around me.I
wish to work on this and ensure that I don’t get bogged down by the opinions of others.In future I wish
to take more ownership and would involve myself in decision making.A positive encouragement or
stroking is a way to empower and give importance to others.Positives strokes help to make the other
other person as well as oneself happy.This lifts up the mood of the induvuals and motivates them to
perform better at their workplaces.
