INTRODUCTION

By carrying out this activity, we seek to encourage the importance of having

knowledge in one or more languages other than the native one and reflect how
knowing about this will offer us more opportunities to advance on a personal and
professional level.
THE IMPORTANCE OF LEARNING A LANGUAGE

We live in a world that is in constant motion and that is currently at the service of
globalization and that has led to significant growth in trade (exports and imports) but
also to the mobilization of thousands of people who have exceeded the barriers
through the knowledge of a language, which highlights us every day that having a
knowledge of a language apart from the native one is of utmost importance for the
society in which we live today.

In evidence 5 a video called: "Les Luthiers - Radio Tertulia -Part VI" was
proposed which will leave us with the following questions to answer:

❖ What communication problem did you find between the two parties?

We can see that in the video there are two people who try to do an
interview with a musical group with a name: "London Spection". The
journalist in this video does not know how to communicate with the
musical group and because of this the first question of the interview
was poorly formulated, which led to the answer being given in the
same way.

❖ Was the information given by the speakers correct? Justify your answer.

The information provided by the announcers wasn't correct, because

during the interview they could not understand what they were talking
about, or what they responded to.

❖ List other similar situations that you know of where this problem occurs.

Today there are many situations in which this barrier occurs since there
is a language that prevents communication with other people. We can
see it especially in tourist places and that is striking for foreigners
because it will be resorted to by people who do not speak our language
precisely.

In our professional life it is important to know other languages, since

this will open doors and guarantee us a better knowledge of the culture
we want to explore.
❖ What do you conclude from this situation?

Currently, knowing other languages is practically a necessity because it

allows us to advance on a personal and professional level, it helps us
to know other cultures in a better way and, in projection, to acquire a
better job. We must all learn another language that allows us to create
new links with communities.
