Kindergarten Drama

Topic: Traffic Signs

Goal of Learning: Students recognize and obey traffic signs.

Standards:
• Social Studies Standard 2.2.b:
Recognize and explain common traffic symbols.
• Standard K.T.P.6:
Use imagination to support artistic choices.
• Technology Standard 1b:
Students build networks and customize their learning environments in ways that
support the learning process.

Description of Learning Activity: The students will watch the video, which will give them a basic
introduction to traffic signs. Then they will use practice starting, stopping, and looking both
ways before your cross the street based on various street signs that will be displayed. Then they
will play red light, green light.

Procedure:
1. Display the video on the board.
2. Tell the children that they will be going on a walk. They will encounter various street
signs and will have to know how to react to stay safe. Have the children wander around
the room until you say street sign. Then display a street sign. The children should
respond appropriately.
3. Repeat the activity in step 2, but do it for street signs pertinent to cars. Have the
children pretend to drive.
4. Optionally, you can tape crosswalks around your room and have different children hold
signs up.
5. With the remaining time, play red light, green light.

Assessment:
Are the students participating?
Are they able to appropriately respond to street signs?
