company which is selling merchandise through
more than 1,500 stores.
• 680 toy stores in US.
• 605 international toy stores.
• 216 Babies“R”US stores.

How the company started:

In 1948 Charles Lazarus began business for children
only by setting up first baby furniture store in
Washington DC.
In 1957 Lazarus opened first toy supermarket.
In 1978 Toys“R”US became a Public company.
Recent Events:
▪ Opened the Time Square flagship store New
York (2001).
▪ Recently lost the number one US position to
Wal-Mart.
▪ Significantly expanded video merchandising in
US stores.
▪ Evolved into a 11-billion-dollar business.

What is doing now?

▪ Trying to regain number 1 position from Wal-
Mart.
▪ Now Focusing on Babies“R”US.
▪ Working hard to be number one baby product
specialist store chain in world.
