d. Provide valves located more than 7 feet from floor in equipment room
areas with chain operated sheaves. Extend chains to about 5 feet above
floor and hook to clips arranged to clear walking aisles.

e. Valves with motorized actuators shall be indicated on the drawings.

10. Float Valve: Shall be "CLA-VAL" Model 124-01 or 124-02. The float valve is a
non-modulating valve which accurately controls the liquid in tanks. The valve
shall be designed to open fully when the liquid level reaches a preset low point
and close drip tight when the level reaches a preset high point. The valve shall
be hydraulically operated, diaphragm valve with the pilot control and float
mechanism mounted on the cover of the main valve. The float positions the pilot
control to close the valve when the float contacts the upper stop. The high and
low liquid levels are adjusted by positioning the stop collars on the float rod. The
difference between high and low levels can be adjusted to as little as one inch, or
to as much as 19 inches by adding optional float rod extensions.

11. Surge Anticipator Valve - Shall be "CLA-VAL" Model 52-03 combination pressure
relief & Surge Anticipator valve. These valves shall be provided for protecting
transfer pumps, pumping equipment and all applicable pipelines from dangerous
pressure surges caused by rapid changes of flow velocity within a pipeline. When
pumping systems are started and stopped gradually, harmful surges do not
occur. However when a power failure takes place, the abrupt stopping of the
pump can cause dangerous surges in the system which result in severe
equipment damage.

Power failure to a transfer pump will usually result in down surge in pressure,
followed by an up surge in pressure. The surge control valve opens on the initial
low pressure wave from the system. In effect, the valve has anticipated the
returning high pressure wave and is open to dissipate the damage causing
surge. The valve shall then close slowly without generating any further pressure
surges.

12. Pump Control Valve: Shall be "CLA-VAL" Model 60-31 or approved equal. Pump
Control Valve shall be a pilot operated valve designed for installation on the
discharge of transfer pumps to eliminate pipeline surges caused by the starting
and stopping of the pump.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
PLUMBING, DRAINAGE & SANITARY SYSTEM - VALVES SECTION 15400
NGAC - GOVERNMENT HOUSING PAGE 3 - 5
Guevara & Partners, Inc.
The pump starts against a closed valve. When the pump is started, the solenoid
control is energized and the valve begins to open slowly, gradually increasing
line pressure to full pump piping head. When the pump is signaled to shut-off the
solenoid control is de-energized and the valve begins to close slowly, gradually
reducing flow while the pump continues to run. When the valve is closed, a limit
switch assembly, which serves as an electrical interlock between the valve and
the pump stops.

When a power failure occur, a built-in lift type check valve closes the moment
flow stops, preventing reverse flow regardless of solenoid or diaphragm
assembly position. Solenoid valve power supply shall be 220V/1ph/60Hz.

C. EXECUTION

1. INSTALLATION

a. Install valves with stems upright or horizontal, not inverted.

b. Install gate valves for shut-off and isolating service, to isolate equipment,
part of systems, or vertical risers.

c. Install globe or angle valves for throttling service and control device.

d. Use spring-loaded check valves on discharge of pumps.

e. Use plug cocks in water systems for throttling service.

f. Provide drain valves at main shut-off valves, and low points of piping and
apparatus.

g. With General Contractor to provide access panels for valves above

inaccessible ceilings and for valves in shafts or enclosures without access
openings.
