ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY

EVERY BABIES COUNT

Reproductive Health Bill, more popularly known as RH Bill, is somewhat

controversial on our society. It guarantees universal access on methods of

contraception, sexual education, and maternal care. It allows people to use

contraceptives to prevent unwanted pregnancies and abortion. The government’s main

reason of creating the bill is poverty. They say that the primary factor of poverty is

overpopulation. Despite this information, I still believed that we should eradicate the

RH Bill because using contraceptives may result to low fertility rates, prevent

sexually transmitted disease among adolescents and to reduce abortion rates.

But would this bill really help them? . I oppose this bill because we should look at the

other side of it and think what might be the possible result if the said bill will become a

law.

First, the government thinks that our country is overpopulated and is the reason

of poverty but in fact, it is not. Overpopulation is not the reason but the uneven

supply of wealth. Corruption is without disbelief the toxic of the Philippine society.

Didn’t most Filipinos show their cries over the corruption because of the slogan of the

former President Ninoy Aquino, “Kung walang corrupt, walang mahirap”? This bill also

put us at the risk of extinction. Using contraceptives may result the population rate to

decline like other country, especially the country of Japan, which was the world’s third

largest economy but they are worrying about the declining of their population which

drops to 10 million. This bill will not make our economic status improve instead it

weakens our status quo. What is the sense of having lots of work opportunity if we are

needed of laborers? I think this RH Bill is useless because it only gives us wrong

perspectives especially in using contraceptives.

Second, this bill aims to give us knowledge about birth control as well as sexual

education but why it should not be taught with the parents instead? It is frightened if it

will be taught to the very curious adolescence for their curiousness will drive their minds

to try things such as premarital sex which results to teenage pregnancy. The use of

contraceptives will not give you assurance of protection. Former Secretary Cabral

confirms this fact that, Intrauterine Devices or commonly known as IUD cannot 100%

prevent pregnancy instead it can lead toward numerous side effects like bleeding,

irregular menstruations and a high risk of ectopic pregnancy. He also said that

injectable may lead to loss of bone mass, frequent headaches, anemia, and loss of

sexual libido. People will confuse of using it because not all contraceptives are safe to

use. Hence, I still believed that RH Bill should be abolished since it will be a burden

because when a woman gets pregnant unintentionally, they will be thinking about

getting an abortion.

Lastly, the legislators thought that RH Bill will reduce the abortion rates.

Are they thinking about its negative side? If there is birth control and the couples have

reached the ideal family size but the wife got pregnant unintentionally, they will force to

undergo abortion for them not to be penalized. If one will undertake abortion, others will

follow. In addition, if several pregnant women undergo abortion then, abortion may be

legalized in our country. Given the fact that abortion is illegal, it is evil because it kills

life. It is stated in the Bible, ‘You shall not kill.’ because life is sacred. It is God’s gift to

us so that we should value what He had been given to us. Thus, I strongly oppose

about use the RH bill.

Reproductive Health Bill mandates the administration to promote without biases,

all effective natural and modern methods of family planning that are medically safe and

legal. People who use contraceptives thought that it may result to control

overpopulation, prevent sexually transmitted disease among adolescents and to

reduce abortion rates. They did not think of what might happened in the end. For that

reason, I strongly disagree about the implementation of RH bill in the Philippines. So,

think deeply!
