In delivering a speech, regardless of the type, it is essential to take note of how we look, how we

sound, and how we speak the message we want to convey. Hence, the dos and don’ts of vocal,
verbal and visual delivery skills serve as a guide to a successful speech. These are important because
an effective delivery shows that you truly understand your topic and able to communicate effectively
your message to the spectators with ease. Taking notice and applying these in the actual
presentation can help the person become a good and effective speaker.

For Visual Delivery Skills, eye contact is essential to establish a connection to the audience. Looking
into their eyes for a second or two creates a sense of involvement between the listeners and you as
the speaker. It benefits both since the audience can engage in the speech at the same time, the
speaker can gain understanding from them.

For Vocal Delivery Skills, one of the dos is to put a smile in your voice. Even if the audience can see
your facial expressions, how you project your voice is as equally significant. It gives a good
impression to the listeners by hearing the enthusiasm in your voice. The pleasantness causes the
audience to feel light-hearted and at ease upon listening to your discourse.

For Verbal Delivery Skills, the use of slang language is very common nowadays however in
presenting a speech, this is not appropriate. This type of language is mostly used in casual
conversations or informal settings since it includes words that are being shortened such as gonna for
‘going to’. In public speaking, formal or Standard English may be utilized.
