Are online classes indeed effective to students? Are they worth the cost?

As the world deals

with the changes brought about by the pandemic, education has been greatly affected by its impact.
Thus, in order to cope up with the issue at hand, the authorities decided to take on a different
approach that utilizes more on technological aspects which is online learning. While this type of
learning is keeping the students safe from the pandemic, it does not guarantee the effectiveness of
education quality-wise. Even with the advantages, online learning has some major drawbacks on the
student such as limited feedback, inaccessibility and problems regarding procrastination.

Firstly, student feedback is more restrained online in comparison to in a traditional

classroom setting in a way that teachers cannot make immediate face-to-face responses to the
students. Those who experience problems with regards to the curriculum can easily be entertained
during lecture or office hours. As a student myself, I find it somehow harder to communicate online
with my instructors for clarifications. This is because I cannot see their facial expressions or hear
their voices that may result to the misinterpretation of their message by means of a chat or e-mail.
Furthermore, a bigger problem is the accessibility of resources needed for this type of learning such
as Internet connection, phones, laptops, computers, among others. For someone living in a province,
a stable Internet connection is a constant problem along with persistent electricity interruption
which affect my studies. Lastly, procrastination is my biggest foe. As much as online classes are
more flexible compared to traditional classes, this advantage also leads to more time of
procrastinating. Unlike in a traditional environment, face-to-face communication with professors,
peer-to-peer activities and strict schedules are some factors that push me to comply. There are also
less distractions in school such as lesser time on the phone, television, video games and many
others. We, students, taking online classes tend to be more comfortable at our homes thus, has
more time to slack.
