SPEECH
I would like to oppose the building of the new
town hall on a number of counts. The building
would be disgraceful waste of public money, which
could far more useful be spent on the social
services or education. Moreover, the site in
George Street has been reserved for some time
for a public park and the construction of the new
town hall would mean abandoning this plan. The
new building, incidentally, will be something of an
eyesore, and will not harmonise in any way with its
surroundings. To turn to the question of
employment, workers will only be needed on the
project for a year or two and will have to find new
jobs elsewhere after that. The project will not be
of any lasting benefit. In conclusion, I would like to
say that I consider this project a shocking waste of
money at a time of financial hardship.
REPORT
Mr.Addison made a speech that regarding the
construction of a new town hall, he opposed
and reasoned that the building would become
a public fund of great shame and he thinks it is
even more useful to spend on sosial service or
education. The site on George Street has been
reserved for some time to public parks and
construction of a new town hall meant
scraping these plans. The new building does
not harmonize with its surroundings. To turn to
the question of employment, workers will only
be needed on the project for a year or two and
will have to find new jobs elsewhere after that.
The project will not be of anylasting benefit. In
conclusion, Mr. Addison said consider this
project a shocking waste of money in times of
financial hardship.
