Emily Taylor’s husband, Martin Taylor, got sent to prison for 4 years, therefore resulting
to her depression and suicide attempts. After 4 years Martin was out of prison she met a doctor
because of her trying to hurt herself, Dr. Banks. Her psychiatrist, Dr. Banks, prescribed a drug
which is Ablixa that has side effects of, as said in the movie, insomnia, nausea, muscle
weakness, change in appetite, dry mouth and irritation, and sleep walking. As she continues to
take Ablixa, the side effect of this lead to her killing her husband in a “sleepwalking state”. When
Emily was confined in a mental hospital and Dr. Banks’ practice was going down, the case of
Emily killing her husband because of the drug was being closed. However, Dr. Banks couldn’t
accept full responsibility of this and continues to investigate her to clear his name. While
continuing to investigate Emily, Dr. Banks finds out the Emily killed her husband consciously
and faked all of her suicide attempts. As the movie was coming to an end, Dr. Banks found out
that Emily and her first psychiatrist, Dr. Victoria, was having an affair and Dr. Victoria ordered or
told Emily to kill her husband resulting to her arrest. Emily afterwards was checked up by Dr.
Banks for the last time and saw that Emily had a mental illness resulting to her being put in a
mental hospital.

My reaction/s to this movie is that at the 1st time you get diagnosed of depression or any
other mental illness and by taking in drugs or medications to control the attacks, it will never go
away. When with a mental illness, controlling it by taking in drugs or medications doesn’t mean
that the illness is gone. It is only controlled by medications. But, when taking in medications for
a long time and the illness doesn’t show up, it doesn’t mean that the person is clear of this
illness. The illness can come back after a few years and you will have to start to take a stronger
medication. That is my reaction to this movie. But, to the movie itself, it is a great movie to raise
awareness for mental illnesses and to not go easy on anyone who has depression or any other
mental illness. It shows that we should care for the people around us. Doesn’t mean that a
person who had stopped taking in meds is clear, we should always encourage them to continue
on taking their meds and we should always be there for them because mental illness is a really,
really serious problem.

So, in conclusion, Having a mental illness is hard, it is and it will always be hard for
people with this illness to cope up in their daily lives so what we have to do is help them
physically, emotionally, socially, financially (if a relative), spiritually and the most important of all,
mentally. Love the people around us and show them we care for them.
