INTRODUCTION
My name is Crystal Arnold. I plan to teach 5th to 8th grade math.

The objective of this classroom management plan is to give

insight on how I plan to provide a safe and effective learning

environment for my students. I will use this plan as a guide for

when I am setting up my classroom rules and managing the

behavior of students. Even though my classroom management

plan will change over time and develop from experience, this

project allows me to have a starting point as I discover what

philosophies and ideas that I want to incorporate into my future

class.

1
PHILIOSOPHICAL STATEMENT
I want to be a teacher because I believe that all students

deserve the opportunity to learn. I plan to include all students in

my classroom and encourage them to participate and be active

members in their own learning. As a teacher I want to help

students learn how to problem solve as well as find their own

opinion and outlook of things. Similar to Glasser’s choice theory, I

plan to build positive relationships with my students instead of

using only rewards and discipline to control behavior. By building

relationships, the students will have a positive role model in their

life and want to maintain order in the classroom out of respect.

2
FIRST DAY
Introduce Myself
 I will start by introducing myself to my students through
a powerpoint. This will let students get to know me and
see me more as a person who is there for them rather
than an absolute authority figure. At the end of the
powerpoint the students will play a kahoot over it.
Time Capsule
 Students will write 3 things that they want to
accomplish by the end of the school year. Students will
fold the paper in half, staple it, and write their name
on the outside. At the end of the school year, I will pass
them back to the students. This lets the students set
goals for themselves and gives them a chance to
reflect at the end

3
FIRST DAY
Find a Friend
 Students will get to know classmates through their
interests to become closer with them and make friends.
This will let the students be more comfortable in the
classroom moving forward in the year.

4
CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT
The students’ desk will be set up in groups. This will encourage
collaborations as they work together to solve problems. I will
have the groups in an x shape so I can connect with all groups
when circling the middle group. My desk will be next to the x so I
can see all group clearly.
Front

My
Desk

I will also have a desk at the front so I can pull students into a
group to target a specific issue that they are having. This way I
can let them see that there are others who struggle with the same
part while making it easier for me to reteach only the students
who need it.

5
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
Beginning of class procedures
 Students will learn to walk in, grab any assignments
from the table, and sit down to work on any warm-up
that may be on the board.
End of class procedures
 Students will continue working until I tell them to line up
at the door. The students will turn in any exit ticket they
may have to me as they walk out.
Classroom Library
 There will be a sign out/in sheet on the side of the
bookshelf. Students can sign out one book at a time
and are required to return it after three weeks unless
they need to recheck it. They can recheck it only once.

6
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
Pencil Borrow Station
 There will be a cup of pencils with my last name on the
pencils. There will be a sign in/out sheet next to it. The
student will write their name, date, and time when
signing out or signing in the pencils. The students are
allowed to sign out a pencil for the remainder of the
day and are expected to turn it in the next day at the
latest.

7
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
Turn in tray
 There will be a turn in tray for each class.

Absent work and no name work

 Any absent work or no name work will be hung on the
board until it is claimed.

8
DISCIPLINE SYSTEM
I believe that students respond better to rewards then negative
discipline. While I plan to build relationships with all my students
to encourage them to want to behave well in my class, some
students my still act out. If a student is being a mild distraction to
the class, I will ignore it as long as they seem to still pay
attention. This will be determined on a case by case basis. If
other students seem distracted by the student, then I will give
them a warning. If it continues, I will take up the object that is
causing the distraction for the remainder of the class. If the issue
is between students or if the student is acting out, I will try to
solve the conflict by looking for the root of the problem. I will
then use restorative justice practices to encourage the student to
work out their behavior. I will only call parents if the student acts
in a harmful and physical way towards anyone in the classroom.

9
STUDENT MOTIVATION
I want to be able to motivate all my students to do the best that
they can in school. I hope for them to be excited to learn. I will
give a small piece of candy whenever I recognize a student
behaving exceptionally well. I also will have prizes set in place
for the groups where each group has the opportunity to get a
prize every 6 weeks. I will encourage all students to try in class
by having them set goals. At the beginning of each week, I will
have each student set a class related goal. Throughout the week,
I will encourage the students to stick with the goal and if they
accomplish it by the end of the week, they will get to choose a
prize from the list. I will also have chart on the board showing the
class averages for each of my classes. This will encourage the
classes to be competitive with each other to be the best.

10
CLASSROOM ENGAGEMENT
I plan to approach the material in a way that will keep my
students engaged. I will do this by having a more student led
classroom. I will give the students opportunities to talk with their
classmates as they discover the process together. Specifically, for
math I will use manipulatives such as paper money or 3D shapes
to give the students a hands-on experience when possible. I will
also make sure to relate the math to real life situations that my
students face on a daily basis. By making it relatable, the
students will be more interested in the learning.
