Individual Activity

Module 2 – Principles of High Quality Assessment

Activity No. 3

ASL 1 – Assessment in Learning

1.In the cognitive domain, the following is the hierarchy of educational targets:

Knowledge - Remembering
This refers to an aim where learners are expected and assumed to recognize
or recall facts, names and lessons in general.

Comprehension - Understanding
this points out to learner's capability in absorbing knowledge and able to
expand their views and cite examples,it literally mean understanding the facts.

Application - Applying
This is where learners are assumed to utilize the learnings in given situations or
employ their understanding on concepts and ideas.

Analysis - Analysing
Educational target that aim students the ability to break down information
into a building blocks. Enhancing their ideas by pondering on lessons given.

Evaluation - Evaluating
This refers to a judgment of information and ideas given, this is essential for
criticizing effectivity.

Synthesis - Creating
This is the highest among educational targets as this refers to an aim where
students developed critical thinking ability, where they do not only learn and
absorb but they are able to create, combine parts to make it new whole.
2. Learning Area : Thermal Expansion ( Science of Thermodynamics )

Learning outcomes
At the end of the lesson, learners..

Knowledge/Remembering
 Determine and recall how matters behave under pressure and heat and
how it affects the system in general
 Learners are able to repeat important concepts

Comprehension/Understanding
 Understand and explain the concept of thermal expansion
 Expound nature of thermal expansion, what is it, how is it represented and
used.

Application/Applying
 Apply real life situations of thermal expansion
 Solve real world problems using the profound knowledge

Analysis/Analysing
 Explore various applications of thermal expansion to be used for future
prediction
 Predict behavior of matter and think of ways in how to benefit them

Evaluation/Evaluating
 Articulate the importance of thermal expansion in one's life
 Appreciate thermodynamics and use of thermal expansion in everyday life

Synthesis/Creating
 Learners are able to make connections between heat and expansion of
matter to form generalization and make predictions
 Learners are able to create their own concepts as to where the field of
study is applied and could be represented
DISCUSS THE APPROPRIATENESS OF THE FOLLOWING ASSESSMENT METHODS:
( Using your own words)

Objective tests
 Objective tests are appropriate as it measures student’s knowledge of the
subject matter and ensure teacher to have effective learning outcome

Essay tests
 It is essential to test the students’ assimilation of high-level cognitive skills
particularly in areas of application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation.

Performance tests
 It is used to measure whether or not an individual acts accordingly to what
is asked to complete a given task. It is most appropriate when we want to
determine whether a student are able to apply the learnings on hand to
test flexibility.

Oral questioning
 It is appropriate when one aim to measure learners stock knowledge or
background of learning. It is also appropriate when we want identify
student's ability in terms of accumulating ideas in verbal form.

Product reports
 This is appropriate when we want to produce designs and we rate outputs
of books, essays, and other learning materials to ensure efficiency.
