What is Religion?

 Religion means Path


 In conventional meaning it stands for:
(A path fixed or appointed by God)
 According to Sir E.B Taylor:
(Religion means the belief in spiritual beings)
Necessity of Religion in Human Life
It provides for the requirements of human nature
Religion creates mental satisfaction by giving meaning of life
Religion leads purification of soul
It plays key role in moral and ethical development of society
It gives us the concept of brotherhood
 It teaches man as how to seek support of God
It teaches equality and dignity of mankind
ISLAM
Literally meanings Of Islam:
Literal meaning of Islam In Arabic:
The word Islam is from the root of Arabic word ‫سمل‬
It means “ To Surrender” or “ To submit” or “To give once self up”
According to Imam Raghib Isfahani:
“Islam means entering into Salam and Slim. Both signify “Peace”
Terminological meaning of Islam:
Islam Stand for complete submission and obedience to ALLAH.
Peculiarities Of Islam
(1) Based on Divine Revelation
Allah sent upon his Prophets revelation and the Prophets told the
people about commandments about Allah. Islam is based on the
verdict of the Holy Quran.
Allah declared that Islam is the best of all religion. As in the Holy
Quran Allah says:
ِ ‫ِا َّن ا ِدلين عند‬
)‫هللا ا ِالسالم (سوره آل معران‬
The whole Islamic code of life and Islamic beliefs are based upon
the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah. In the last sermon of
the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon Him) He said that “I am leaving
among you two things which will guide you. If you act upon them
you will never go wrong. They are Quran and My Sunnah ”

Islam provides minutest details about life and living


Islam is a complete religion faith. Allah mentions in the Holy
Quran
)‫اليوم اڪملت لڪم دينڪم (سوره املائده‬
Every department of human life weather it is social, cultural,
political, economic or spiritual is guided by Islam
(3) Solution of Fundamental
Problems
 Islam has answers to all the questions which have been perplexing
the mind of man since ages. Such as:
 How this universe began?
 What will be it’s end?
 Who is the creator?
 What is purpose of creation of man?
 What is the relationship between creator and creations?
 What is place of man in this universe?
(4) Emphases Upon Knowledge
 Superiority of Hazrat Adam on the basis of knowledge
)‫وعمل آدم الامسآ َء لکها (سوره البقره‬
 The message of Iqra (‫)اقراء‬
)‫مسمل (الحديث‬ ‫طلب العمل فريضة عىل لک‬
(Seeking knowledge as compulsory for Muslim)
)‫اللحد (الحديث‬ ‫اطلبوا العمل من املهد ايل‬
(Seek knowledge from cradle to grave)
(5) Establishes Universal Equality and
Brotherhood

‫انّ اکرممک ِعند هللا اتقمک‬


 (The most righteous as the most honorable in the Eyes of Allah)
 Pilgrimage is the best example of the universal brotherhood.
(6) Free from all doubts
 Islam is a perfect religion means it is perfect with respect to every
aspect of life.

 In Early ages science had a list of doubts in Islam with respect to


the creation of universe, creation of man and so on. But now
science had acknowledged every fact produced by Islam.
(7) Urges Scientific Study And
Research
 Islam is a logical and scientific religion
Quran says,
Why don’t you look? ‫افال تبرصون‬
Why don’t you observe? ‫افال تتدبرون‬
Why don’t you think? ‫افال تتفکرون‬
 Quran compels Muslims to carry on scientific study to know the law of nature and
to see how the nature is working in the universe.
 It is spirit of Islamic learning which produced great scientists in different fields. For
example, Ibn e Haithem (in Optics)
Al Khuwarzmi (in Mathematics)
Jabir bin Hayan (in Chemistry)
(8) Raised The Status of Women
)‫اجلنة حتت اقدام الاهمات (ابن ماجه_ نسايئ_ابن حنبل‬

Paradise is at feet of Mother

 Woman is respected as Mother, Sister, Daughter and Wife


 Share in inheritance
 Widows are allowed to marry again
 No widows should be married without consulting her and no virgin be
married without her assent. And her assent in silent.
(9) A Sum Total of Teachings of
All Prophethood

 Islam was a religion of Hazrat Adam, of Nooh, of Mooses and


jesses and was perfected with Hazrat Muhammad (Peace be Upon
Him).

 Islam has credit of having in itself the best of teaching of all


Prophets.
(10) Presents details of rights and
duties

 Islam has presented in detail the rights and duties of man as a


servant of God, as a father, as a son, as a husband, as a wife, as a
neighbor, as a relative, as a citizen etc.

 No other religion of the world bears this feature.
