SYSTEMS OF LINEAR EQUATIONS 3X3

GOAL: Solve a problem applying the 3x3 systems of equations.

ACTIVATE YOUR KNOWLEDGE (5 minutes)

Do the following Khan Academy .

New information and application (30 minutes)

I. Watch the video and take the following KhanAcademy. Take notes in your notebook and carry out the
process in the notebook for at least 4 exercises.
II. Watch the video on how to solve the 3x3 system applied the determinants method. (Take notes) No
doubts are answered if you do not take notes before.
III. Solve the following 3x3 system problems using the following steps:
1. Define the variables
2. Set up the equations
3. Solve the system by applying the determinants method.
4. Give a written answer, taking into account the context of the problem.

A. A hotel purchased a total of 200 units including pillows, blankets and duvets, spending a total of 7,500 euros. The
price of a pillow is 16 euros, that of a blanket is 50 euros and that of a duvet is 80 euros. Also, the number of pillows
purchased equals the number of blankets plus the number of duvets. How many pillows, blankets, and duvets has
the hotel bought?

B. In an ice cream parlor, for an ice cream, two juices and 4 smoothies they charged us 35 euros. Another day, for 4 ice
creams, 4 juices and a smoothie they charge us 34 euros. A third day for 2 ice creams, 3 juices and 4 smoothies 42
euros. What is the price of each one?

C. In a circus there are 11 carnivorous animals including tigers, lions and panthers. It is known that each lion eats three
kilos of meat a day, that each tiger eats two kilos a day and each panther also two kilos. If in total 25 kilos of meat
are needed per day and it is known that the number of panthers is triple the number of tigers. How many lions,
panthers, and tigers are there?

D. We have 235 euros in bills of 5, 10, and 20 euros. Knowing that we have a total of 19 banknotes and that the
number of 20 euro banknotes is double that of 10 euro banknotes. Calculate the number of bills for each

E. In a garden there are 150 children of 4, 5 and 6 years of age. The 4 and 5 year olds add up to 90 and the 5 and 6
year olds add up to 110. How many 5 year olds are there?
F. A bread and a sandwich cost $ 70; a sandwich and a piece of cheese cost $ 60; a bread and a piece of cheese cost $
90; then a bread, a piece of cheese and a sandwich cost together
