There was a dangerous rock called the Inchcape Rock near the coast of Scotland. When the sea
was stormy, the rock was hidden under the water. The ships struck against the rock and were
wrecked. A kind-hearted Abbot placed a bell on a buoy on the rock. When the sea was stormy,
the waves struck against the rock and the bell rang. The sailors heard the warning notes of the
bell and steered clear of the rock. They blessed the abbot. Sir Ralph was a very wicked sea
robber. He could not bear the abbot being praised. He felt jealous of him. He rowed to the
Inchcape rock and cut down the bell from it's buoy. It sank to the bottom of the sea with a
gurgling noise.
Sir Ralph plundered the ships to his heart's content. He grew rich with booty. He, at last, set sail
homewards. He was overtaken by a fierce storm. He lost his way. There was no bell to warn
him of the hidden rocks. He repented for his foolish and cruel deed and wished very much that
he could hear the warning notes of the Inchcape rock. His ship struck against the dangerous
Inchcape rock .It was wrecked to pieces. Sir Ralph cursed himself. In his great despair, he tore
his hair and beat his breast but it was too late. He was doomed. The ship sank with all the
plundered goods and Ralph was drowned along with his companions.
