TORONTO (CP) _ A police officer who was followed home last Saturday was also threatened on his cellphone, a
police source told the Toronto Sun Thursday.

``Someone has done a lot of legwork,'' the source said.

On Sunday, all officers were warned of the threat made against the officer, whose identity has not been revealed.

The officer was identified in the police alert as Sri Lankan and the alert said the threats came from a Tamil gang.

The incident is being investigated by a special police team formed by Chief Julian Fantino in the wake of a series
of recent threats against officers.

Fugitive arrested after high-speed chase ends in crash

TORONTO (CP) _ A fugitive wanted in seven bank heists this week was nabbed Thursday after a high-speed
chase ended when a stolen car rammed a station wagon and flipped over.

``I tried to get out of the way and the next thing I know I was hit and his car was flipped,'' said Julie Egan, 36, who
was with her 16-month-old daughter, Lillian, and nine-year-old son, Dylan, when her car was hurled into the side
of a building in the city's east end.

Egan and her children were not injured.

Thursday's drama began minutes after a 3:20 p.m. heist at a Toronto bank. Speeds reached 120 kilometres an
hour as police chased the robber.

Police said the same man has held up six other banks in Toronto, each time passing a note to a teller that said he
was armed, although no gun was ever seen.

James Michael Sturge, 24, faces 12 charges, including robbery and assaulting police. He was named in an arrest
warrant Jan. 24 after failing to show up at his residence, police said.

Owner changes mind about euthanizing both dogs involved in attack

TORONTO (CP) _ A woman whose two dogs mauled a 16-year-old girl delivering newspapers has agreed to
euthanize just one of the dogs after publicly saying both would go.

Elizabeth Bilton would not comment on her change of heart Thursday after a brief appearance in a downtown
court, where the euthanasia order was imposed.

Her lawyer, Joe Louch, said in an interview he's unsure what part the second dog played in the Jan. 13 attack on
Melanie Munro, and his client did not want him destroyed.

Bilton has been charged with common nuisance and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

The teen's mother, Sharon Munro, said Thursday night there are ``conflicting reports'' on the second animal's
role.

She said her daughter is progressing ``wonderfully'' and could be back at school full-time next week.

The teen was bitten around the head, left ear, right shoulder, right chest and both legs, and underwent surgery.

The donation from the founder of the Four Seasons Hotel chain and his wife, a 1968 graduate of the college, will
help the college build its new downtown centre.

The facility will be named the Sharp Centre for Design. Construction on the $40-million project is to begin later
this year.
