St. Michael’s Lent is a period of fasting as observed by St.

Francis
of Asissi. It was in the midst of this “Lent” that Francis received
the wounds of Jesus on his body.

This fast kept by St. Francis runs from the Solemnity of the
Assumption (August 15) and ends on the feast of St. Michael
(September 29). Similar to Lent that occurs before the feast of
Easter, it excludes all Sundays.
It unites the Assumption of the Mother of God with the Feast of
the Archangel, Michael. The fast was created to honor the
Blessed Virgin and St. Michael – the Queen of Heaven and the
standard-bearer of Her Angelic Host – and to entrust the Church
and the world to both these powerful intercessors.
St. Michael’s Lent involves doing something in honor of St.
Michael.

† Practical Recommendations:
Light a blessed candle before a statue or image of Saint Michael, the
Archangel.
Make the sign of the Cross.
Offer a particular sacrifice during the 40 days
Seek the Sacrament of Reconciliation at some point during the 40 days.
Offer this devotion to a special intention or grace you are seeking.

† CONSECRATION TO ST. MICHAEL (Aug. 15th – Sept. 29th)

"Oh, most noble Prince of the Angelic Hierarchies, valorous warrior

of Almighty God, and zealous lover of His glory, terror of the
rebellious angels, and love and delight of all the just, my beloved
Archangel Saint Michael, desiring to be numbered among your
devoted servants, I, today offer and CONSECRATE myself to you,
and place myself, my family, and all I possess under your most
powerful protection.

I entreat you not to look at how little I, as your servant have to

offer, being only a wretched sinner, but to gaze, rather, with
favorable eye at the heartfelt affection with which this offering is
made, and remember that if from this day onward I am under your
patronage, you must during all my life assist me, and procure for
me the pardon of my many grievous offenses and sins, the grace to
love with all my heart my God, my dear Savior Jesus, and my Sweet
Mother Mary, and to obtain for me all the help necessary to arrive
to my crown of glory.

Defend me always from my spiritual enemies, particularly in the

last moments of my life.

Come then, oh Glorious Prince and succor me in my last struggle,

and with your powerful weapon cast far from me into the infernal
abysses that prevaricator and proud angel that one day you
prostrated in the celestial battle.

Accompany me then to the throne of God to sing with you,

Archangel Saint Michael and all the angels, praise, honor and glory
to the One who reigns for all eternity. AMEN."

stated, "In consecrating the Vatican City State to St Michael the
Archangel, let us ask him to defend us from the Evil One and cast him
out."

† Pope Leo XIII’s little exorcism prayer

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection
against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke
him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God, cast into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

The Chaplet of St. Michael can be prayed as a novena starting nine days in
advance of the Feast of St. Michael which is on 29th September

† The Chaplet of St. Michael

Praying the chaplet is said to provide the assistance from Saint

Michael the Archangel and the company of one angel from each of
the nine celestial choirs when approaching Holy Communion. There
are nine salutations, one for each choir of angels, each one followed
by an Our Father and three Hail Marys. The history of this Chaplet
goes back to a devout Servant of God, Antonia d’Astonac, who had
a vision of St. Michael. He told Antonia to honor him by nine
salutations to the nine Choirs of Angels. The vision was approved by
Pope Pius IX in 1851.
St. Michael promised that whoever would practice this devotion in
his honor would have, when approaching Holy Communion, an
escort of nine angels chosen from each of the nine Choirs. In
addition, for those who would recite the Chaplet daily, he promised
his continual assistance and that of all the holy angels during life,
and after death deliverance from purgatory for themselves and their
relations.
