Module 1

A. Read and analyze the following statements. If you think the statement suggests an
incorrect idea, rewrite it on the given space, otherwise leave it blank

1. A relation is a set of ordered pairs where the first element is the domain and the
second element is the range.

2. A function is a relation of correspondence between two elements.

3. In a function machine, the input represents the independent variable while the output
is dependent variable.

B. In three to five sentences, write the significance of function in showing real-life

situations

Function help real-life situation by determining what is right and wrong in pair. For
example is marriage is one to one relationship and its a function. You can tell a real life
situation if its function by using this method.

C. In your own words, discuss when a piecewise function is being used.

A computer shop charge 10 pesos per hour and 100 pesos only in 12 hours. However if
you played less than or more than 12 hours then they will charge you more than 100
pesos.

Module 2

A. Complete the following statements to show how you understood the different types of
functions. Answer using your own words.

1. A polynomial function is a function as quadratic , a cubib , a quartic it also includes

only non-negative integers powrs or only positive integers components of a variable in
an equation.

2. An exponential function is one of most important function in mathematics , it is the

function of f(x) a to the power of x , where x is a variable.

3. A rational function is any function whuch can be defined by rational function which
can be defined by a rational function an algebraic fraction such that both the numeratot
and denominator are polynomials.

4. An absolute value function is a function that contains an algebraic expression within

absolute value symbols. It is common;y thought of as providing the distance the
numbers is from zero on a number line

5. A greatest integer function rounds down a real number to the nearest integers.

B. Evaluating function is the process of determining the value of the function at the
number assigned to a given variable. Just like in evaluating algebraic expressions, to
evaluate function you just need to replace each letter in the expression with the
assigned value, then perform each operation in the expression using the correct order
of operations. Don’t forget to underline your answer.

Module 3

Addition : Determine the function of (v+g) (x)

V(x) = x² + 5x+ 4 This was given to the solve function

g(x) = x² + 2x - 8 So copy the given

(v+g) (x) = (x² + 5x + 4) + (x² + 2x – 8)

(v+g) (x) = 2x² + 7x - 4

Remember to always put a parenthesis to

determine the two equation.
Final Answer

Subtraction : Determine the function (P-f)(x)

P(x) = 2x – 7 This was given to the solve function

f (x) = x+3 So copy the given

(P-f) (x) = (2x-7) – (x+3)

(P-f) (x) = 2x-7-x-3

(P-f) (x) = x-10 Final Answer

Multiplication : Determine the function (f*P) (x)

F(x) = x+3
Given
P(x) = 2x-7

(F*P) (x) = (x+3) (2x-7)

F = 2x² I = 6x
O = -7x L = -21

Use Foil Method since this is a binomial

(F*P) (x) = 2x² - 7x + 6x – 21

(F*P) (x) = 2x² - x - 21 Final Answer
Division: Determine the function ( ) (x)

V(x) = x² + 5x+ 4
Given
g(x) = x² + 2x - 8

(x) = x² + 5x+ 4
Factor out since its Trinomial
x² + 2x - 8

(x) = Cancel Out

(x) = Final Answer

Module 4.

First I will understand the problem , then think a way to solve it. After thinking a way to
solve I’ll try it then check if it’s correct.

Module 5 Lesson 1

A. What are the three things that help you in representing real-life situations to rational
functions?

1. Analyzing and understanding the given problem.

2. Creating an equation for the given problem.
3. Performing the operations.

B. What are the two questions that you want to ask to clarify the process of translating
real-life situations to rational functions?

1. Step by step explanation

2. Is there particular basis in practicing solving real life problems?

C. Share one tip or suggestion on how others can represent real-life situations using
rational functions?
Analyze the problem clearly so you can propely solve it using rational functions.

Module 5 Lesson 2

A. What are the distinct features of rational function, rational equation and rational
inequality?

Rational Function
A rational fuction is quotient of polynomials in which the denominator has a degree
of at least 1. The general form of a rational equation is p(x) q(x) whre p(x) and q(x) are
polynomials q(x) ≠ 0.

Rational Equation
A rational equation denominator should not be equal to zero.

Rational Inequality
A rational inequality is an inequality which contains a rational expression. Rational
inequality always work zero on one side of the inequality.

B. What are the differences of the following

1. Rational Function and Rational Equation ?

The general form of a rational function is p(x)q(x) , where p(x) and q(x) are
polynomials and q(x)≠0 . A rational equation is an equation containing at least one
fraction whose numerator and denominator are polynomials.

2. Rational Equation and Rational Inequality?

A rational equation is an equation containing at least one fraction whore
numerator and denominator are polynomials, while rational inequality contains a rational
expression.

C. Share one tip or suggestion on how to identify whether the given is a rational
function, rational equation or rational inequality.

Rational function : f(x) = before the given functions

Rational equation : equal sign (=) at the end of the given fumction
Rationall inequality : inequality symbols > , < ,≥ , ≤ at the end of the function.

1. ,x≠3 x=

2x-1 = 5 (x+3) x=
2x-1 = 5x + 15
2x – 5x = 15+1
-3x = 16
2. x² (2x-5) = (x+2) (x-3)
x² (2x-5) = (x+2) (x-3) = 0
2 x ³ - 5x² - (x²-3x + 2x – 6) = 0
2 x ³ - 5x² – (x² - x – 6) = 0
2 x ³ - 5x² - x² + x + 6 = 0
2 x ³ - 6x² + 4x – 3x + 6 = 0
2 x ³ - 4x² -2x² + 4x – 3x + 6 = 0
2x² (x-2) – 2x (x-2) -3 (x-2) = 0

B.Give your insight on the following:

1.Explain the similarities and differences in solving between rational equations and inequalities?

The only difference is If you multiply or divide both sides of an equation by the same negative
number, the equation remains the same, but If you multiply or divide both sides of an inequality by the
same negative number, the inequality reverses.

2. Why do extraneous solutions sometimes occur and don’t work in the original form of the equation?

The reason extraneous solutions exist is because some operations produce 'extra' answers, and
sometimes, these operations are a part of the path to solving the problem. When we get these 'extra'
answers, they usually don't work when we try to plug them back into the original problem
Module 7

A. In your own words, how do you represent rational function using

1. Table of Values
It consists of values of x and y In order to graph linear function, we can make use of
the table of values to map out the corresponding values of x and y for the given line.

2. Graph
Before proceeding to graph you must finish answering the equation and table of
values. After that you must make a graph of the answers by using Cartesian plane. To
determine if the points will form a line or a curve.

3. Equation
In a rational equation you must first identify it’s denominator and numerator are
both polynomials and doesn’t contain any radical signs and negative exponents. Also
denominator must not be equal to zero.
