Tony Rice will use the same scale shape with infinite variations within the shape. Take this typical lick, for example, where Rice
shifts the old faithful Minor Pentatonic shape from G Minor to G Major. Within this shift, the second position we use (G Major)
uses all the open strings. Therein is the key to developing strong Tony Rice licks. Use the open strings to shift from shape to
shape.
