After I saw the movie, I was curious to read description about BMW,
Amazing innovation & creativity. I wish to visit this factory some day.
However; The BMW i3 is the first product of the new BMW i sub-brand
and is a truly purpose-built electric car. It’s a new era for electro
mobility at BMW. Desiged to change minds; in the BMW i3 family,
everything is intentional from the wheels on up. These compact electric
vehicles are built to deliver new dimensions of performance, reliability,
and fun.
Framework for efficiency. The BMW i3 is built using two lightweight
components – an aluminum Drive Module, and a Carbon Fiber
Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) Life Module for passengers. The lighter weight
helps increase range while the Drive Module provides a lower center of
gravity for improved maneuverability.

*i3 passes through four stages:

- CFK production.
- Exterior components (thermoplastic skin manufacture).
- Body shop.
- Assembly.
As the movie show:

Part 1: (00:00) carbon fiber, battery assembly, assembly of the

drive module.

Part 2: (10:16) e-transmission assembly, electric engine

construction, cockpit & dashboard moulding.

Part 3: (18:00) body pressing, assembly, & painting.

Part 4: (30:00) final assembly.

*BMW has implemented efficient manufacturing processes & using

recycled materials. (sustainability)
*process fully automated (door) (shell) with robot.
*i3 was BMW’s first mass produced. And as we know, Mass production
is the continuous production of items in a series of steps such that all
steps are performed concurrently. (mass production of CFRP)
*integration of new production technologies.
* there were higher equipment utilization.
*it caught my attention that there were more open work areas with
fewer walls, partitions, or other obstacles.
According to a process type: There were a combination of process
types, which include: job shop, batch, repetitive(assembly) &
continuous (high efficiency).
The facility layout is a process layout (functional) used for intermittent
processing (job shop & Batch processing) , other areas have a product
layout (sequential) used for repetitive processing (Repetitive
&Continuous processes) , we’re going to look at how these layouts can
be combined in different ways to increase productivity. These are
referred to as a hybrid layout, which is a layout that is combination of
three main manufacturing layouts. We look at three different hybrid
layouts: cellular, flexible manufacturing, & mixed-model assembly.
