ABSTRACT
It is very important for the community today to have an institution or knowledge center
like school archive. The school archive today is not only as a center of acquiring
knowledge, but also as a place for us to devote our creative ideas to improving the quality
of service or the method of obtaining information more effectively. In addition, school
archive nowadays have provided space and opportunity for the students to voice or give
their views to help teachers make the learning sessions to become a conducive and tranquil
center of knowledge for all walks of life. This positive development needs to be maintained
as it is one of the main reasons why the school archive today is still relevant in this century.

INTRODUCTION
The Kuala Lumpur International School or ISKL was established in 1965. The
Kuala Lumpur International School (ISKL) has also been recognized as a center of
excellence in the world of international education. ISKL is a co-curriculum and private,
non-profit school responsible for conducting learning activities with more than 1,800
students ages 3-18 from more than 65 countries at its campus located in the heart of Kuala
Lumpur. The ISKL also offers a robust international curriculum that combines the leading
North American education framework with best practices globally.

The curriculum recognizes that all students are on a lifelong learning journey and
are motivated by the mission of ISKL, which is to challenge each student to "Be All
Yourself" and develop the attitude, skills, knowledge, and understanding to become a
highly successful, vibrant, and socially responsible person and citizens. ISKL is the
longest-running IB World School in Malaysia and has been authorized by the International
Baccalaureate Organization to provide the prestigious International Baccalaureate
Diploma Program (IBDP) since 1989. In August 2020, two new innovative High School
curriculum options, PRAXIS 2030 and the pursuit program will be offered to all students.

Both focus on improving student agency and self-learning. ISKL is also the only
school in Malaysia offering a high quality network of cross-disciplinary courses that also
allow students to choose the curriculum that best suits their abilities, interests, and
aspirations. Available options include PRAXIS 2030 (for Grades 9 through 10 students),
the Chase Program, full IB Diploma, or a combination of IB individual options, Advanced
Placement, and High School Diploma.

This flexibility has also created opportunities for global advanced education with
most of the students of the ISKL gaining acceptance from leading universities around the
world. ISKL has also been recognized internationally through the Council of International
Schools (CIS), and in the United States through the Western Association of Schools and
Colleges (WASC). ISKL also has a strong focus on services and sustainability across its
divisions and is a member of the EcoSchools and Green Schools Alliance organizations.

1. CHAPTER 1: SCHOOL BUILDING
1.1 School Building
In August 2018, two ISKL campuses located in Melawati and Ampang were merged
into one specially built campus in Ampang Downstream, where the ISKL offers its
outstanding program equipped with world-class facilities. With an area of about 26 acres,
the SC will provide an advanced learning environment featuring academic, artistic, and
athletic resources. From world-class science laboratories, classrooms, art facilities, and
three libraries, the school also includes flexible spaces that have been designed to
incorporate the latest teaching and learning concepts. With extensive playgrounds,
Olympic-sized tracks, two gymnasiums, and tennis courts, the new campus is adorned with
spectacular sports facilities. Also, the prominent Aquatic Complex includes an
Olympicsized 50-meter competition pool, a 25-meter daily activity pool, and a learning to-
swim pool for young students. The Performing Arts Center (PAC), with four different
elements, will showcase local and regional events that serve the needs of communities
outside of the ISKL. Included in the complex will be a special 700-seat Performing Arts
Theater, Atrium Amphitheater, and plans to further the Black Box Concert Hall, Concert
and Theater.

ISKL is the first school in Malaysia to have achieved a level on the Platinum Green
Building Index (GBI), which will serve as a laboratory for the study and understanding of
environmental sustainable practices. Schools reflect institutional ethos and focus on
environmental stewardship. Schools appreciate the involvement of parents in school life
and as such, the school itself has in its own right created a gathering place for parents and
volunteers to meet. From a full-service Coffee Shop, to a parent lounge and dedicated
Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) space, campus design also supports the unique and
vibrant community of ISKL.

country and the school's incredible cultural diversity. Malaysia’s melting pot of cultures
and faiths, together with achievements in Malaysia's national growth, has resulted in a
broad range of festivals and celebrations. However, students, teachers and staff who
come from all over the world to ISKL celebrate a multicultural learning environment.

There are a few celebration that being held in ISKL such as Hari Raya
(Ramadan), Chinese New Year, Deepavali and Halloween. The ISKL Elementary
School's Hari Raya (Ramadan) and Merdeka festivities are a great example of how they
celebrate Malaysia's festival calendar. Students have a chance to immerse themselves
in Malaya's cultural heritage, wear formal Malaya clothes, such as Baju Kurung and
Baju Melayu, and watch typical Malaya dance performances.

Figure 30: Batik Design in Graduation Sash at ISKL

The heritage of ISKL is Batik Graduation Sash when it wear to celebrate

marking the end of their school days at ISKL. Students will wear their cap, gown and
sash in readiness for an emotional and joyous of that celebration. This is because the
cap and gown are well-known symbols of academia, the batik print graduation sash is
a symbol of ISKL’s cultural link with our host country, Malaysia. In example, on May
31, when the sash is placed around the shoulders of the 162 graduating students, a new
tradition will begin. The first graduates from ISKL’s Ampang campus will be wearing
a batik print designed by ISKL students for ISKL students which has been specially
commissioned for use at graduation ceremonies in perpetuity.

22
Figure 31: Graduation day at ISK

In addition, the story behind the batik print is one of inspiration and
collaboration between students, parents and the faculty. The idea of a batik sash was
first initiated by the ISKL Parent Teacher Association (PTA) in 2011 and since then,
our parent team of Grade Level Coordinators (GLCs) has been responsible for
purchasing batik printing and producing sashes. In 2018, the parents of graduate
seniors, embodied and guided by volunteer GLCs, Ms. Jenny Busaidy, Ms. Sharon
Kossler and Ms. Gloria Uribe, voted to contract the creation and development of batik
prints that could be handed off to potential generations of senior students.

CONCLUSION

In a nutshell, in the assignment of online finding aid of school archive, our group
had discussed all 5 elements of our chosen school which are the International School of
Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) from the school building, tradition and heritage, school life and
Alumni associations. We had found pictures from their websites, blog and also social
media platform such as Facebook. The websites of the schools had given us some
information and also photos to be shown in this assignment. All of the photos in each
chapter had proved that ISKL had a very interesting details in their management, student’s
life, heritage and others. Furthermore, we learned a lot on the school based on the
information that we found on their gallery archives. Unfortunately, we did not find any
materials such as photos, document and others in the OFA websites but we have tried our
best in finding the information at other sources. Other than that, from this assignment we
successfully increase our knowledge on the important of keeping the archives and records
of an institution such as school. According to Kings College (n.d.).

“Archives are important because they provide evidence of activities and tell us more about
individuals and institutions. They tell stories. They also increase our sense of identity and
understanding of cultures. They can even ensure justice”. Therefore, it is very crucial for
all types of organization and also individual to keep their important records in archives so
that it can be kept safely and secure and use for future references.
