Today's parents are more tolerant with their children than those of the past.
Attitudes and behaviours which were not accepted some fifty years ago are now
adopted by the young and the adults do anything to change in this field. Their silence
and passivity are often interpreted as signs of agreement and in some cases even as
marks of their incapacity to keep under control the liveliness and dynamism of the
present generations. Children are aware of this situation and they know that whatever
they do, they have nothing to fear because the severe punishment and harsh treatment
used at home and at school in old times are no longer admitted nowadays. They have
grown in a world where all forms of violence are criticised and where the rights of
different categories of the population are protected. At the same time, the studies of
psychologists and their recommendations about the role of affection in the
development of the child's personality have made a long progress into every
community and all these facts create an atmosphere which allows the young to act
with almost unlimited freedom. As a result, they disobey instructions, insist on
imposing their choices, refuse to listen to common sense and do not hesitate to deal
with matters which they cannot understand at their age.
