Justify the title tell tale heart

The title Tell-Tale heart is strategically chosen by the writer as it referred to the
Confession Of Crime by the narrator in the story. The story’s title refers to the
beating heart that eventually drives the narrator to confess his crime. The reader is
led to believe it is the beating of the old man’s heart he hears, an impossibility,
considering the old man has been murdered and dismembered, leaving few
possibilities like the narrator is insane; the narrator feels guilt over the crime and
hears his own heart.

The meaning of Tale is story. Here, we have a story of a narrator and an old man
with vulture eyes followed by the murder of that old man .The term ‘Tale’ of the
title refers to confession and the term ‘Tale (of)Heart’ Suggests the crime of the
narrator.

So, what tales does the old man's heart tell? We first hear his heart beating on the
eighth night, when he realizes that something is not right in his room. His heart
tells a tale of fear, which in turn makes the narrator extremely angry and gives him
the push he needs to carry out his dastardly deed.
The next time we hear the beating of the heart is after the old man is dead, and
since we know that dead heart doesn’t beat, the narrator's own hidden guilt over the
deed is projected onto the dead man's heart, thus telling a tale of the narrator's
guilty feelings.

First, it describes the resolution of the story’s plot. The heart is telling the
tale of the corpse’s whereabouts.. This story presents a psychotic killer as a
narrator, his plan for killing his master, his act of killing his master and his sudden
confession towards the end of story. The narrator after murdering his master
suffers from Guilt Psychology . The narrator confirms the heart-beat’s tale by
confessing murder and ordering the police to rip up the floor

Second, the title makes a moral or psychological comment. The heart refers to the
narrator's heart. Inside the heart is where our deepest, truest feelings and emotions
live, at least metaphorically speaking. We could look at the whole story of the old
man's murder as a tale told by the narrator, a tale from his own heart. The title
refers to both the narrator's heart, and to the old man's heart, and to the tales told by
both.

Third, the title might be viewed as an atmospheric device, which brings together
incongruous images—a heart and a mouth. It is called "The Tell-Tale Heart"
because the heart, he believes, has betrayed him and told of the narrator's
crime.When the police arrive to investigate the crime, they are not there to arrest
him, but he has already begun to be driven crazy by the sound of the murdered
man's heart. The title then comes from his admission of guilt and plead to pry up
the floorboards to reveal his crime. The heart will tell the tale of his crime- hence
the title "A Tell-Tale Heart".

Finally, Poe offers a proverb. A tell-tale heart is a sign that reveals the thing a
person most wants to conceal. Something necessary to hide of necessity revealed.
It is true that he has kept his murder a secret for other but he himself is familiar
with his crime . Now his heart beats because of the burden of the crime which
forces him to confess his crime. Finally when the crime becomes of source of
suffering, he has to confess it to get relief .
To sum up the title is appropriate in the context in the story as it deals with the
issue of crime confession and relief
