Aim of the study

The aim of the study to evaluate the clinical and economic outcomes of pharmacist intervention
in Parenteral Nutrition at public hospital in Riyadh city, Saudi Arabia because the pharmacist
play the main role to avoid these problems to recover patient outcome, and avoid the excessive
extra cost.

Method

Prospective analysis of 12 month study.

Major Findings

 402 pharmacist interventions occurred.


 From those intervention (51.99%) was male, (48.01%) was female
 Pharmaco Economic of the patient length of hospital stay decreased 226 (60.27%) and
decreases in the rate drug therapy monitoring 79 (21.07%).
 Maximum patient outcome was laboratory value upgraded 170 (45.33%), and patient
state improved 137 (36.53%).

What was missing?

 The outcome of this study did not describe distinctly the facts and Quantitative ratios of
the role of the pharmacist.
 The study lacked interventions in instructions and how to accurate them.

Aim of the study

The aim of this study is to point economic evaluations of clinical pharmacy services which
directed hospital inpatients. The aim concentrated on the present cost-effectiveness status of
diverse facilities, in calculation to evaluating the quality of discrete studies.

Method

Prospective, search strategy ranged from January 2008 to December 2012.

Major Findings

 20 studies were thought to be qualified for addition


 Only 3 studies (15 %) were thought to be ‘‘good-quality’’ studies.
 6 antimicrobial interventions were present in which 5 of the studies included a
comparator in the form of a randomized controlled trial (19) and 1 study was a
prospective audit [21].
 An ICU team resulted in a 50 % cost reduction in expenditure on antifungal agents (37)

What was missing?

 There was no novel clinical pharmacy service included in this analysis.


 Primary element of a high quality economic evaluation such as estimation of resources
and costs, uncertainty analysis and discount rates were absent from the study.
