PROCEDURE

The spectrophotometers was switch on to warm up and the wavelength max was
set at 645 nm. Six test tubes were cleaned and numbers as 1-6. 1 M HNO 3 was
transferred into the burette.
The six test tubes was filled with the following solution as listed in the table. The
contents in the test tubes was transferred into cuvettes and the absorbance of each
solution were measured at 645 nm.

Test tube No. Contents

1. 10.0 mL of 1 M HNO3 from the burette
2. 4.0 mL of standard Cu2+ solution and 6.0 mL of 1 M HNO3
from burette. Mixed well
3. 7.0 mL of standard Cu2+ solution and 3.0 mL of 1 M HNO3
from burette. Mixed well
4. 10.0 mL of standard Cu2+ solution
5. About 0.05 g of unknown sample and 10.0 mL of 1 M
HNO3 form the burette. Mixed well (The sample was
centrifuged and filtered off)
6. About 0.10 g of unknown sample and 10.0 mL of 1 M
HNO3 form the burette. Mixed well (The sample was
centrifuged and filtered off)
