ACETONE Effective Date : January 2010

Auto ignition Temperature :

540oC
Hazardous Combustion Products :
Carbon dioxide and some carbon monoxide.
Extinguishing Media :
Alcohol resistant foam, carbon dioxide, and dry chemical.
Fire Fighting Instructions :
Water can be used to cool fire-exposed containers, to protect personnel and to disperse vapors
and spills.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Small Spill :
Absorb spill with an inert material (e.g., dry sand or earth), then place in a chemical waste
container.
Large Spill :
Contain spilled liquid with sand or earth. DO NOT use combustible materials such as
sawdust. Eliminate all ignition sources. Use plastic or aluminium shovel to transfer absorbed
waste material into drums. Prevent runoff from entering into storm sewers and ditches which
lead to natural waterways.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

Handling :
Avoid contact with eyes. Keep container closed. Use only in a well-ventilated area. Wash
thoroughly after handling. Avoid prolonged or repeated breathing of vapor. Avoid prolonged
or repeated contact with skin. Use grounding and bonding connection when transferring
material to prevent static discharge, fire or explosion. Use spark proof tools and explosion
proof equipment.
Storage :
Store in well-ventilated area. Keep away from heat, sparks, and flame. Emptied containers
may retain product residues. Precautions apply to emptied containers.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION

Engineering Controls :
Control air bone concentrations below the exposure limits. Use only with adequate
ventilation. Local exhaust ventilation may be necessary. Lethal concentrations may exist in
areas with poor ventilation.
Respiratory Protection :
When respiratory protection is required, or concentrations are unknown use approved air
purifying respirator equipped with organic vapor cartridges or canisters. For emergency and
other conditions where exposure limit may be greatly exceeded, use an approved positive

pressure, self-contained breathing apparatus or positive-pressure airline with auxiliary self

contained air supply.
Skin Protection :
For brief contact, no precautions other than clean body-covering clothing should be needed.
Use impervious gloves such as neoprene.
