Sc in 3rd loop made)

Row 4: Sc in first ST, 15 Sc in BLO, Sc in last ST. Ch 1 turn. (2 Sc and 15 Sc in BLO made).

Rows 5-28: Repeat Rows 2-4, in order, 8 more times

1/6
Row 29: Sc in first ST, 1 Hdc in next 15 STS, 1 Sc in last ST. Fasten off leaving a long tail for
sewing seam and closing top.

Finishing Cactus Body:

At this point your work should look like a rectangle with ridges in it. Thread your finishing
needle onto the long finishing tail and sew the seam up stitch by stitch, lining up the first
Sc stitches from Row 1 and Row 29 and sewing together. With the next 15 stitches place
the needle through the Sc from Row 1 and the 3rd loop of the final row of Hdc stitches.
You will end by joining the final 2 Sc of Row 1 and Row 29.

Your project is now in a cylinder shape and you have reached the “top” of the cactus,
which resembles a star. To close, use a finishing stitch in the inside loops around the top.
Pull closed, this will create the top of your cactus. Using your fingers you can now shape
the body.

Spines for the Cactus: (Optional)

String together the 4 ply white yarn and 3 ply dark pink yarn. Pull a long length of both
yarns together through your finishing needle. Tie a knot in the end of the yarn. From the

2/6
underside of the cactus pull the yarn through
the middle of the raised stitches on your
cactus. Repeat this down and around each
side of the cactus until you have the desired
number of spines (I placed mine approx. every 3 stitches down) each ridge).

Once you have completed the desired number of spines. Cut the pink strands down
close to the cactus body. Next, Cut the white “spines” down to the desired length and use
your finishing needle to gently separate the 4 strands of the white yarn. This will create
the look of the spines .

Gently stuff the body with fiberfill and shape.

Flower:

*Note change in Hook size to F

**If you would like your flower to have a center that is a different color than the petals,
start with that color. This is optional and your flowers can be all one color if you prefer
not to switch colors.

Round 1: With desired color work 5 Sc in MR. Join with Sl St to first Sc. **Change to petal
color now if desired.

Round 2: Ch 2. In same ST, 2 Dc, Ch 2, Sl St. This creates your first petal. **Sl St in next
Sc, Ch 2, 2 Dc, Ch 2, Sl St. You will repeat from ** for the remaining 3 Sc STS around. (5
petals created in total).
3/6
Fasten off. Leave long enough tail to attach to the top of your cactus.

Soil:

*Note change in Hook size to G

**Place stitch marker in first ST of each round

Round 1: With brown yarn 6 Sc in MR. Join with Sl St to first Sc.

Round 2: (Inc in each Sc around). (12 Sc made)

Round 3: (1 Sc in next ST, 1 Inc next ST) Repeat around. (18 Sc made)

Round 5: (1 Sc in next 2 ST, 1 Inc) Repeat around. (36 Sc made)

Round 7: (1 Sc in next 4 ST, 1 Inc) Repeat around. (54 Sc made) Join with Sl St to first Sc of
round. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Center and attach your cactus to the soil circle. I recommend pinning it in place
and shaping it as you stitch it to the circle, using the green yarn to attach. If you
have not done so yet, attach the flower to the top of the cactus.

Round 18-19: 1 Sc in BLO around. (36 BLO Sc made, each round) Join with Sl St to first Sc
of round. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Finishing/Assembly:

**Face for Pot: (Optional)

Place 6mm safety eyes 8 stitches apart in Row 15 of the Pot. I place the first eye at ST 24
in the round and the second eye at ST 32. Sew a mouth in a “V” shape in Rows 12-13,
center between eyes. Use a small full paint brush to apply a small amount of blush just
below the outer lower corner of each safety eye.

Cactus/Pot Assembly:

Stuff pot with fiberfill to the bottom of the pot lip and shape Place Soil ring on top of
fiberfill inside pot so that the soil ring and cactus are resting inside just below the lip of
the pot.

Using the same color as the pot attach the soil ring to the
pot by placing a whip stitch through the outside loops of the
soil ring through the stitches where the lip of the pot begins
(this will be Row 18 of BLO stitches in the pot pattern. Once
attached fasten off and weave in all ends. Gently reshape
your completed cactus. Enjoy!
