Important to Know:
By participating in a video conference, you agree that you will not discuss or share any educational
information about other students in the group outside of the classroom experience. You also agree
that during the session, no recording or digital image retention of any kind will occur unless
established and clearly communicated by the teacher, and you understand that only students,
teachers, and other authorized staff may be part of the experience unless specific permission is
granted by your teacher to include others. If you feel you or your child are unable to comply with
these requirements, please reach out to discuss alternative service delivery options.

Video Conferencing Norms

Refer to the following guidelines to help your learning community have a successful video
conference.

● Find a common space in the house with a blank wall or background. (Examples are kitchen,
living/family room, office, etc.)
● Be on time for the session, perhaps 1 or 2 minutes early.
● Mute yourself when you are not speaking.
● Use headphones with a microphone when possible (not required, but helpful if available).
● Speak clearly when sharing your thinking.
● Follow the norms determined by your teacher.
● Use your school-issued email account (123456@mtka.org)
● Seek parent permission if you wish to use your school email address to engage in study
groups with classmates.
● Remember that video conferencing using district technology is only for educational
purposes

How to use Google Hangouts Meet for Minnetonka Students
Important to Know: Your teacher may request to meet with you via Google
Hangouts Meet. This tool allows you to visit with your teacher face to face. It
will allow your teacher to share their screen with you and you to share your
screen with them if you have questions about something. Teachers will give
you a code to use to join the meeting. Often the code will just be their first
and last name all in lowercase. Other times it may look something like this
XYZ-TYVH-YUW.

How to Get Started with a District-issued iPad: Download the Google Hangouts Meet App from
Self-Service and login with your @mtka.org Google credentials (example 123456@mtka.org). You

3
will be redirected to SSO during login. On a non-school iPad, you can open meet.google.com in a
web browser like Safari. You will have to log in with your mtka Google credentials to access
nicknamed Google meetings.

Ways to join a Google Meeting with a Chromebook or computer

Two ways to join a Google Meeting with an iPad:

Option #1 Open a link:

1. After tapping a link in Schoology
or Seesaw to a Google Meet,
select the Open In arrow and
then select Open in Safari as
circled in the first picture. Google
Meet will automatically
open--instead of Safari. Without
the Google Meet app installed
you will get the error message shown in the second picture. Note that if you toggle to
Request Desktop View you could use Safari to get to a GMeet session and shown in the
second picture.

Option #2 Enter a Code:

1. Launch the App on your iPad at the time your teacher set the meeting.
2. Tap on Meeting Code and either enter a
meeting nickname if your teacher
created one or copy and paste the ten
last letters of a link to a Google Meet into
the app when you select the Enter
Meeting Code option. In this example you would type the last ten letters qrstuvwxyz:
meet.google.com/qrs-tuv-wxyz
If you are a student in Grades K-3 (or do not have access to a district-issued device), you may
be joining a Google Meet from a home device such as a Chromebook, desktop, or laptop
computer. Here are directions to join this way:
