ABSTRACT

Partial Immersion Program at Second Semester of Education Technology.of
University Muhammadiyah Sidenreng Rappang. Thesis, University of
Muhammadiyah Sidenreng Rappang. Supervised by Sam Hermansyah and
Nuraini Kasman.
The objective of the research was to find out whether or not using partial
immersion program in teaching english to improve language proficiency.
The research used pre-test and post-test design. The population of the
research was the second semester of education technology University of
Muhammadiyah Sidenreng Rappang there are two class program. The researcher
applied random technique that took one of the two class and sample of this
research was afternnon class with 12 students.
The instrument of this research was speaking test which would be
administrated in pre-test and post-test. The pre-test would be used to find the prior
knowledge of language proficiency (interview test), while post-test would be used
to find language proficiency acchievement after treatment is given.

The result of this research showed that partial immersion program was
effective to improve language proficiency at second semester of education
technology. It coukd be proved from their mean score in post-test (55.00) was
higher than their mean score in pre-test (51.80), and the t-test value (2.551) was
greater than t-table (α = 0.05; df = 9; t-tabel = 2.262, this means that H 1 was
accepted.
